As many may remember, I held a HIGH SPEED INTERNET FOR KEN drive about 2 years back. It was VERY successful... and I managed to collect up enough dough to pay the DSL charge for brother Ken for a little over 2 years (I initially started the drive hoping to get a years worth!)...
Well, the time is coming very near when that dough runs dry... and if we want to continue to enjoy brother Ken's wisdom (and we all know Ken is in the top 5 of the most valuable resources here and on BYOAC), we're going to have to do something about it.
BACKGROUND: Ken Layton is an extremely valuable asset to this community. The man has helped countless folks with their tech issues. The guy lives on a fixed income and was trudging along with FREE dial-up internet a couple years ago. That severely limited him from helping folks as even a simple PHOTO took forever and a day to load up, let alone video showing issues, etc... so we did something about it and got him DSL. Being on a fixed income, the man simple can not afford DSL. He couldn't before, and he still can't now. So here we stand.
I ask you... has Ken helped you in the past? Was it worth $5? $10? $20 or more? Then this is your chance to show your appreciation. I will be collecting dough for Ken's high speed for the next month. If you'd like to contribute, please GIFT (so as to save on Pay Pal fees) any amount you would like to donate to: papafrizarcade@gmail.com - PLEASE MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE "FREE INTERNET FOR KEN" in the message. All proceeds will go to continue Kens DSL (and yes, I will call around to find the best deal I can find as well). If you don't do paypal and would like to contribute, PM me for my address and I'll shoot it over.
The bottom line is that Ken is one hell of a valuable asset to this community and if you have a spare fiver, it would be in your best interest to consider donating it...cuz one day brother Ken may be able to help you out of a jam!

See if Ken Qualifies for this $10 a month deal from AT&T.
I have had this deal going on 3 years now. Works great.
-
I will check that out Meany...thanks!
Now...check it out...
As of right now there have been 52 individual Paypal donations for a total of $865.41!! I also have received a single check for $15.00 thus far for a total of $880.41!!
While I will officially accept donations for the "cause" anytime... this "drive" ends on Friday when I will be calling around to see if I can better the deal we set up last time.
EDIT:
Have not subscribed to high-speed Internet service within the past 12 months - This offer is available to new residential high-speed Internet service customers only.
That kills the AT&T deal...

Ken has helped me more than once, and he's a super nice guy.
He deserves it. I just wish I could give him as much as his help is worth.

Ken is a friggin' SAINT (not to be confused with out wonderful site owner). I've seen the guy answer the most basic monitor questions a thousand times over and never ONCE have I seen him get any kind of attitude with a NEWB over a stupid question or anything. I can't count how many time he's answered "How do I measure my B+ on a G07?" or "What chassis is this?" without so much as a hint of "Hey Newb, there's something called GOOGLE ya know." type attitude.
-
The total as of right now is $925.41 .... the largest donation being $50.00 (2 or 3 of them...) and the strangest number being $9.41 (that was all he had left in his account).
GREAT JOB FOLKS!
EDIT: Wait! I almost forgot to add the $15.00 check I got.... so $940.41 is the total! We need $60 more guys to hit 1 GRAND!

Damn you guys friggin' kick some ass...

I just got off the phone with QWEST...his corrent DSL provider. Since it's a stand-alone account they tried hard balling me but I wasn't having anything of it. After getting to the "Customer Loyalty" department and explaining the situation I got them to drop the monthly price from $49.99 to $29.99..... so brother Ken is looking at about 3 years of service paid thus far!!
BRAVO PEOPLE!
-
Let me put in a "BRAVO PAPA FRIZZ" -- this was a really cool thing for you to do last time and even more amazing for you to do it again.
Thanks for carrying the ball on this -- thanks to you we get to benefit from Ken for another 3 years.
:applaud:

It's the least I can do... Without Ken I'd have never gotten my first G07 to work and I'd probably be collecting baseball cards or something instead of arcade machines.
BTW - The pot is up to a little over $1,075 now and it keeps on coming.
-
Or maybe you would still be turning Mr Do's into jukeboxes ... >:D

Alright folks. Here are the final numbers:
66 total paypal donations (most of which came over as GIFTS, but a few came over as regular payments meaning Paypal took their cut)...
$1,066.60 in paypal payments.
I received one check for $15.00.
Total: $1,081.60 out the door.
There were also a quite a few very nice comments about Ken (and I...thanks) included. Too many to really go through frankly... Lets just say that KEN is highly regarded (as evidenced by the turn out!).
Largest donation: Two $50.00 donations
Smallest donation: Quite a few $5.00 donations... they added up!
Strangest donation amount: $9.41 GIFTED (thats what he had in his acct)
We lost probably around $8-$10 in Paypal fees from the folks who forgot to send as a gift... no big deal...likely kept Paypal off ---my bottom--- for this "unusual activity".
In any case... THANK YOU ALL for participating and helping keep Ken in the high speed zone. I managed to negotiate a $29.99 deal with QWEST so that puts him just at 36 months... plus he still has $60 in his account from the last drive for another 2 months...so he's looking at 3 years 2 months of net service... WHEW! We just about DOUBLED last outcome! AWESOME!

Hey I've read tons of Ken's posts and JUST saw this. Will PM.
No. Thank you Ken you've helped me indirectly tons.

....and they keep coming. $60.00 is the new "high" donation... received this afternoon... that's another 2 months!
