I just didn't wanna hijack StrikeOne33's thread... I'm not huge into Blitz or Gauntlet Legends, I would like to play some other 3D-ish fighters like Virtua Fighter or KI and run a decently flashy non-3D frontend like Maximus or Hyperspin. I assume the 2D fighters (Marvel, SF) and NES/SNES emus will be ok. I know for MAME, processor and RAM matter more than video card (and I'm planning on ArcadeVGA for my arcade monitors sake)
This IBM desktop is about $250 on Overstock.com (I'm good with tools but not computers. A custom build would kill me and I thought Overstock would have good bang for the buck)
* Processor: Pentium 4 - 3.0GHz processor
* Memory: 2048MB RAM
* Hard Drive: 400GB
* Optical Drive: DVD-RW ROM
* Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Pre-installed
* Display: Monitor is not included
* Network Devices: RJ-45 Integrated 10/100 LAN
Of all aspects of my arcade project, I'm most worried about dropping a bunch of cash on a comp that wont be compatible with some BS I haven't yet considered. If I'm going about this wrong, let me know!
Also, is running the most current version of MAME that important? I figure if your PC specs arent up to par youd be better off running an older version

I have about the same thing in mine--3ghz pentium 4 & 2gb ram--and it runs pretty much everything great. That includes KI and KI2, Marvel vs. and Street Fighters, nes, n64, genesis emus. I even threw in an old geforce 7800gt I had laying around and it plays Street Fighter IV as well.
Should do you just fine
Edit: Oh and I am running MAME version .128 or .125

KI2 only needs about a 2.4-2.8 tops Ive ran on it 2.4s with no prob but others say it stutters a tad
