Title: Smaller Juke in a car?
Post by: ediblegod on November 04, 2009, 11:26:05 pm
Anyone try making a jukebox for the car? I love my juke and want one EVERYWHERE!

My next project is to set up one in my truck with a 7" or so touchscreen/old laptop running ETouch.
Just curious if anyone has made one yet...    ...pics? ;D

Oh, and why are the smaller touchscreens so much more expensive!? Does this make any sense to anyone?

Hi,

I have not seen a jukebox as such in a car/truck however they do all sorts of things on that "pimp my ride" programme. They have monitors coming out of the head rests etc and have dome loads with MP3 set ups.

The touchscreens for cars are marketed to a select audience that will pay premium prices for their toys.   That is why they get premium prices for their screens.

Thanks for your responses, looks easy enough. mp3car has tons of crazy ideas.

I should really learn to finish my projects before starting new ones...
But ETouch sure would look sick on the dashboard of my truck!

You may want to use a custom skin due to the smaller screen but it is certainly possible. I was going to do it myself but circumstances changed so i have no transportation in need of one now.

dude, if you want to have a PC in your car, I'm running Roadrunner (now called Ride Runner) and a front end called DigitalFX 4.0 ( http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/rr-released-skins/117143-digitalfx-4-0-a.html (http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/rr-released-skins/117143-digitalfx-4-0-a.html) ).  It is AMAZING.

It runs my nav, pulls weather, plays music and movies.  It runs on a minimal processor.  It's seriously bad ass.

I've been running this config for about 2 years.  If you have any questions, you can hit me up, or the mp3car.com forums are amazing.

too bad they disabled the audio on this youtube video...it's awesome.

That software looks awsome. Not sure how it all hooks up to the car but it does look really nice.

I built a PC in my other car a couple of years ago. Have a look here ---> http://www.sweclockers.com/album/?id=2603 (http://www.sweclockers.com/album/?id=2603)
Build log is in swedish but I'm sure you can get the big picture. I'll be happy to anser any Q's if you have any.

Nice build.   Used google to translate swedish to english and your site was very easy to understand.   Seat lifting looked like a bit of work though.

Thanks, Yeah it was a pain since half of the screws had rusted and broke right off.  ;D

Well, I finally did it...  :applaud:
Thanks for everyone's input, here's what I have so far...

Looked at a couple carpc frontends but just kept going back to etouch.
After all, all I really wanted out of it was the jukebox anyway.
Also threw in Maximus so I can pay some select arcade and old school nes games just for fun.
I might play around with some other stuff later but it ROCKS for now!

First I took out the stock radio and cut it down a bit.
Wanted to just play the PC through the stock system so I didn't have to turn it on everytime I started the car.

Cut out a space in the lower console for the radios new home.
Had to cut out a bit more inside the dash to make more room for the PC.

Put one of the cigarette lighters and a few USB slots in the encloser between the 2 front seats.

Everything left is pretty much cosmetic. A bit of bondo, brackets and vinyl and this puppy is gonna be styling.
Also, As Barcrest said before I started, I am gonna have to make a new skin to make the buttons a bit larger.

When I get it looking a little more pretty I'll post up a little video.
First Pic is a stock pic of a 2006 Tacoma because, as usual I started tearing things apart without taking before pics.
