I have been looking through different options for guns to use
with the AimTrack.
I found that PS"GUN CON"NPC-103 Black cased Japan version
looks quite nice!
Just wondering if anyone tried it?
The Japan version looks so much better than those Orange or Grey ones!

I have not tried it, I am looking for guns right now. Just a FYI: That is the PSX 1 gun, the burn orange ones are generally for PS2 (they have more buttons and a different design).

I use the Guncon2's painted black...they look real nice(http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t109/Drakin_photos/Guncon2/MVC-003F.jpg)

Everytime I see Drakin's painted Guncon2's I get the urge to jump the gun and order the Aimtraks...
.. but then I have to remind myself that I'm waiting to see how Andy's full solution will look..
:banghead:

Drakin,
Do you have any detailed build pics of how you installed the Aimtrak module in those guns? Problems you ran in to? I just got 2 of them and was trying to figure out how I was going to set them up. TIA!

He posted a thread about it. I'm sure he'll post the link again for you.

Yea I did the build and posted on Hyperspin-fe....here is the link:http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4797 (http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4797)

Here's something you might want to think about doing....
The trigger switches in these guns aren't great. Just one of those little square tactile button switches that wear out pretty quickly.
Mine had a nearly dead one in it, and I didn't want to just replace it with the same weak part, so....
It's not the prettiest, but it's not going anywhere any time soon. You have to clip the terminals down nearly to the switch body and solder the wires to the common and NC terminals. You then position the switch in such a way as to have it depress the button when at rest. You need to clip away a little bit of the plastic, but not much.
Flood it with some high temp hot melt and hold it until it cools. It helps to test the action while it's cooling to make sure it hasn't moved out of position. Besides giving you a much more reliable trigger switch, this mod also moves the trigger action to the top of the throw, instead of the bottom where it normally would be. It becomes a hair trigger that makes rapid fire a piece of cake, and much less stressful on your finger than the old arrangement.
FWIW.

I've been trying since this was posted to get into it and just keep getting a database error. Did you have fairly detailed pics on it? I know I looked at it when it was posted in the other thread but I don't recall any being that detailed.

Well I broke down and did it!
I ordered 2 kits and will try in the Guncon model that I posted.
I hope the wiring isn't to difficult. Also would be a added bonus if they are including
the pin header that was talked about in the other thread.
Hey Can someone tell me the trick to get images to show up on here?
I tried to post a pic in my first post but it would not show? ???
So I just gave a link.

I get the same "Database error" if I don't log in...after you log in the error goes away...not sure why.

The link you're trying to show is the link for the page, not the image itself. Unfortunately the link for the image is buried in the source on that page, so you can't right-click on it and get copy the image url directly. But here it is (copied from the page source):

That was the ticket. Thanks!

I could not figure out what I was doing wrong...
Did not realize the address was for the web page only and not
the image.
Well I will try this mod with this gun shortly and let everyone know
if I'm successful!
Thanks for the tip.. :)

I got my Aimtak's in today now just waiting for the guns.
Does anyone out there have some more close up pics of how they wired in
these extra buttons?
I have seen the official website and various other pics but nothing
conclusive.. I want to see a pic or 2 of someone who has tapped into
the extra buttons!
( And after the solder points are tapped into they hook to where? )
On another note I noticed other members had a pic of a 2 pin harness
but I noticed mine is 4 pin.. ???
Reading through all these Aimtrak's threads over and over it appears to
me the Aimtrak supports 2 buttons by default.. is that correct?
So many questions so few pics...

Originally Andy shipped the AimTraks with a 4-pin connector (female) populated with only two wires. I think he quickly realized that people wanted access to all four pins (two buttons) so he is now shipping the AimTraks with all four wires populated.
The bottom two pins of the header are the same - common. The top wires are for the trigger and auxiliary button switches. I would assume you can either daisy-chain the common leads from one switch to the next, or wire them both separately, although I have not confirmed this.
The AimTrak comes with support for 6 buttons, but only two are accessibly via the 4-pin header. The others will require you to solder into the (tiny) through-holes on the PCB. But you can configure it to have 4 separate joystick buttons with only the two pins on the header if you configure the on-screen and off-screen separately. In other words, you would make your trigger Button 0, trigger off-screen Button 1, aux Button 2 and aux off-screen Button 3 using the config utility.
Hope this clears things up for you.

OK so that clears that up about it does now use 2 buttons by default.
So If I wanted the Extra 3 buttons ( Hoping 2 will be enough but don't know)
I would just soldering to P3 for Button 3 and then wire directly
to gun existing button 3.
Then Hack into a existing common from the harness and wire it also to
the button 3 on gun?
Am I understanding this correctly?

I finally got one of my Guncons in.
Began Immediately working on it! ( I will post pics later)
I'm using my first gun as the prototype.
When my second gun come in I will fully document my progress!
( That is when I get my 1st gun fully functional!)
The Guncon really is a great gun for this mod.
So Far I just removed the Main Guncon board and left simply the 2 mini boards
for the buttons.
I'm also now looking into wiring up button 3 once I get a little more
info on wiring into these mini solder points on the Aimtrack!
I need to make a permanent fixture for my sensor bar and possibly do
a little trimming on the gun nose.
This gun is Very accurate already almost unbelievable! :)
I have had the Act Labs, LCD Topguns, etc.
This is by far the best gun out Bar none!

Please please please! ;D
I would love to know how to modify it as i am planning on getting a couple of G-cons myself, but maybe the G-Con 45 (same thing, different colour).

Anybody have an idea what this Cherry switch Randy used might be?
-
I rigged up a housing for my sensor bar.. did some mods to my
Aimtrack gun.
I booted up it was perfect!
Then after about 2 minutes the tracking went Haywire... ???
It will only read the top half of the screen.
So I Booted another PC and low and behold after after 2 minutes same thing.
Now I'm starting to worry That I could have fubbed up my Aimtrack
when I was soldering into the AUX pins on the board :'(
Anyone else had problems with tracking going haywire after about 2 minutes?

I have made a lens cover!
The Plastic from a CD spindle case is perfect!
Here is the homemade lens in gun:

Finished product:

Turned out ok so far if I can figure out the 3 - min tracking problem!
More to come I'll try to document the 2nd gun as I'm doing
work; as now I know what to do!
