I had a question for you guys, I have not had my battlezone on for a while & when i turned it on the sound was no longer clear & strong like it always has been. I messed with the potentiometer& it feels gritty, so I guess, its the potentiometer, a dried out speaker or sound board problems any ideas where to start.

you can pick up a good pot cleaner at rat shack but its not cheap ( $12 a can ) try cleaning it and you might think about an ar2 rebuild and a new big blue if you have not done so...

Check, I believe on the aux board, for loose chips.
Press each socketed chip in too make sure they're snug.
I hadn't looked at mine in forever so I forget exactly where my similar problem was, but it was loose chips. Some had almost worked plum out.

Instead of cleaning, replace the pot. Cheaper and a definitive solution. You can't fix a 30 year old pot. They are gone.Dead. You may make it work a bit for a while, but it will come back.
