Hi All:
I got some 2 inch wheels for my cab....
but their weight limit is like 125 lb....
I'm thinking... since I'm going to have 4 wheels on the cab... that means the weight is distributed among 4 wheels... right ??... (it might not be "evenly" distributed...) since I might lean on it... or the back will hold more of the monitor weight and so on....
if I go with higher weight limit, I'll probably have to buy 4 inch wheel (which is significantly bigger and will take MUCH more space in the bottom....)
on the other hand, I don't want to crush the wheels after the cab is set and done.....
so.... anyone has any comments on this ??....
(what if I use 6 wheels instead of 4 ??....)
I'm using plywood with my cab.... I think with monitor and computer.. and all the stuffs... I figured it'll be around 200lb.... (not counting me pushing it when playing....)
with all the geniuses here... any physics major that can help me out ??.....
or just let me know what kind of wheels (weight limit / size) you use so that I can have a better idea ??
thx all in advance.... ;) ;) ;D ;D

You are correct. The total amount of weight that can be handled with those, assuming even distribution, should be about 500 lbs for 4 wheels.
A little overkill never hurts, but if you are well below that you should be ok.

You an plan for weight as much as you want but be conservative. I can't speak for other machines, but my Killer Instinct is well over 400 pounds. It's got a 25" monitor, though. That's where alot of the weight comes from.
-
My cab is about 250 pounds. I have 4 wheels on the bottom which each hold 250 pounds, but you should be fine with the 4 x 125 lbs wheels.
-
I was planning on just adding wheels (maybe even removable) to the back of my cabinet, for easy moving.
Look at pic.

Good idea too - the only "minor" problem with that is that (a) you couldn't push the cab back flush with a wall and (b) you would still have to shimy the cab away from the wall a foot or two before being able to tilt it enough to roll it.
issue.

hmmm... that's a very good idea..... I might want to mount it this way..... then I'll only need like 2 or max 3 wheels.....
and the cab will not move when instensively played.....
I'll do some measurements and check out HD and see what wheels they got....
thx.....
;D ;D ;) ;)

If you decide to go with wheels on bottom, remember that you can get ones with a brake. You just flip the lever and they won't roll anymore so you don't have to worry about intensive play pushing the thing around. They're a little more expensive.
-
yeah... I have thought about that also...
but keep in mind... the wheels will be mostly under the cab....
(and the sides and the front will cover most of the wheel...)
so.... to step on the brakes that is very much under the cab will be very hard....
-
Maybe my cab is heavier than most, but I have no problem with it moving at all on it's 4 wheels. And I get into some wild Robotron games.
-
my wheels can withstand all they can stand, and they can withstand no more! ;D
-
wow... :o
I feel like I just read a note from fortunte cookie..... lol....
I didn't even have Chinese food today.... haa haa...
;) ;D
-
I just bought the 2" wheels down at home depot...the two in the REAR are swivels and the two up front are straights....why? Cuz I realized I always push the cab ass-end first, and as such, thats where my steering ought to be ;)
In hindsight I would have done 4 swivel wheels.....but I was afraid, at the time, of too much movement when playing.
I didn't factor in the hundreds of pounds.....that thing ain't goin nowhere.
-
Let me followup on my last post... I have 4 swivel wheels on the bottom of my cab, non-locking type. That thing is so darn heavy it doesn't move at all when playing (yet moves rather nicely when I need to move it). It is on a very thin rug too, with cement under the rug (basement), so there isn't much in the ways of rug keeping it from rolling. I would think any movement you are going to get from your cab would be the same rocking motion you might get even if you had no wheels.
Serioulsy, I've had guests over that against my protests, beat the crap out of that thing and it doesn't move. I've come close to beating the crap out fo them for doing that too.... :-X

Putting wheels on the bottom adds a couple inches, though. I don't know if I could afford it. My machine may to tall already. However, these wheels are awesome. They are what's used in my KI machine...

You cut a notch into the back of the machine to install it and you tilt it back on the edge to move it.

I have wheels only on the back of my cabinet, and they are non-rotating/non-locking ones. They sit basically flush or a hair above the floor and the cabinet doesn't move at all during play (My basement floor is laminate wood super smooth, the bottom of my cabinet has felt glued to it so it doesnt scratch). The wheels sit right at the back of the cabinet and I cut out the bottom corner of the sides so that I can lean the cabinet back and it rests on the wheels to wheel it around. You can just see the wheels on one of the pictures on my website.
-
YEah, if weight is evenly distributed. pushing the cabinet will do weight transfers. I don't remember what my wheels were rated, I just now they are well more than enough for the job.
-
I'm never as concerned about the wheels as I am the mount. I can see the wheel ripping cleanly off the underside of the machine.
-
Am I the only one happy to mount the caster wheels on the BOTTOM of the cab, to gain an extra inch or two of height?
My Centipede cab, even with caster wheels on bottom, is still a little too low for me. Hell, I ain't 4 feet tall anymore!!!
-
What's all this about wheels adding height? You don't want 2-3" of wheel showing anyway, so put your frame that you're attaching the wheels to about 1/4-1/2" shorter than your wheel up in the cabinet. That way, only 1/4-1/2" of the bottom of the wheels will show (probably not even that with carpet). Just make sure that when you put them in that they all can swivel 360 degrees! :)
-
Well, I was using a 'real' cabinet, so I had no option but to stick the wheels on the bottom, and live with whatever height that gave me (and whatever amount of wheels show)
however, it turned out great... it adds a little hight (1-2 inches), yet the wheels aren't awfully obvious. Perfect balance, IMHO.
-
I didn't even worry about Weight to be honest with you. I got some metal wheels (Brass Maybe? I dunno) that have a female part and the male part has the wheel. They rotate 360 and hold my cab. It's got a 21 Inch monitor and it's made of 3/4 MDF. When I put them in, the plan was to just put them on there to move them, then use my levelers to keep the machine in place, but I haven't actually taken them off yet. They're holding up fine. When I move in a month, I'll finally do it. :D
Maybe I got lucky and my wheels should actually be crushes..but they're not.
that's my 2 cents.

you can mount the wheels like I have them mounted, the cabinet is barely above the carpet. Actually in my apartment Ihave fluffier carpet so the cabinet is touching the carpet. But wheel make it ALOT easier to move around.
-
I would definately recommend wheels for your cab. I have no idea how I would have moved mine around without them. I used 3 inch wheels from home depot and mounted them on the bottom. I have 2 that spin and 2 that are fixed. They seemed to be able to handle more than enough weight.
-
I did that too, two fixed, two spinning.
-
I put four spinning caster wheels on my old cabinet (also rated at 125 lbs each). Seems to work fine so far. I also got the kind that can lock in place so the cabinet won't move when playing.
-
I was going to get some fancy ones from Happ - the kind that are like what you find in Midway machines. Now I'm just thinking I'll get some low profile casters if they aren't too large. My control panel can't afford to get any higher.

These are what my machine has as well. They seem to work perfectly, and don't create any instability in the cab's footprint at all.
