20" Flat Panel Touchscreens for future sale and wanted to see if anyone would be interested buying them.
The prices have not been set as of yet, but, My business partner and I will be selling several 20" flat panel, metal case enclosed touchscreens / monitors / T.V.'s that will work with 95/98/ME/XP/Vista and possibly Linux. They will also work with external DVD players and cable / satellite boxes, if those components have Red, Yellow, and White RCA style connections.
These touchscreens are in new condition and connect to your computer's VGA port for standard monitor use and COM / Serial port using a custom DB9 serial cable for touchscreen use. You can also connect to your external DVD player, cable / satellite boxes using red, yellow and white RCA connections. They will be offered with drivers, power supplies and serial cables and without power supplies and serial cables for those who can build their own. Serial pin out's and power supply schematics will be included for those who wish to build their own.
We will also include instructions on how to install the drivers in text format and possibly video tutorials as well.
We are using one for testing on an XP machine and it is working absolutely fantastic and works great in all of the default resolution settings in XP, 800x600 through 1600x1200
We will post video as soon as possible of them in action. If you guys would be interested in these or would like more info, let us know.
The touchscreens would be great for Touch Jukebox applications as well as monitors for MAME machines.
Please post any questions you have and we will answer them as quickly as possible. You can P.M. me or You can also inquire about them at,
www.pacmandotcom.com (http://www.pacmandotcom.com) by sending an e-mail to the site owner, by clicking on the Contact link in the Main Menu on the left side of the screen.
Thanks,
Shawn

Do modern computers have COM / Serial ports? I don't think any of my newer (2-4 years old) computers do.

You can still get new computers with a Serial / COM port
I have a Dual Core desktop that is not even a year old and it has a COM port.
It used to be that older computers had 2 COM ports and a game / midi port. But you'll find that newer computers will only have 1 COM / Serial port. But, if your MOBO does not have a 9 pin COM port, you can buy Serial / COM port PCI and PCI-e cards from computer and office supply stores such as Tiger Direct, Comp USA, Staples, or online sites such as Feebay, New Egg etc.... for pretty cheap prices.
Here is a link for example.

And here is one for $25.00,

For a flat panel monitor, it's not exactly light weight! I'm sure shipping to Japan would be outrageous!!
I'll let you know when when we have prices and are ready to start shipping.

Thanks for the interest guys. :)
I will keep everyone updated.

USB!
You guys might want to test it with a serial to USB adapter. If it works, that'd be a great addon, as COM ports, while still definitely available, are really old tech. USB is so much more flexible and usable IMO.

It seems to me that all the cool and pretty inexpensive ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- is in Japan.....
-
I'd probably be interested but like everyone else I depend on cost. I also need it to work EASILY with Ubuntu.
-
how much i would be interested

Interested, need cost.

Why do a lot of folks seem to dislike the idea of using serial for something like this ?
I have many touchscreens..... I wouldn't have anything but serial for them.
Basically like having a dedicated port for your touchscreen. It's not that bad , really it's not.
;D
I'd also be interested in what price gets determined on these.

Interested as well, however need cost.
Most modern boards still have serial ports by the way, go look at NewEgg. Most do.
I just bought a new Atom based board for a touchscreen jukebox and it's got a serial port:

interested as well. Pricing dependent of course. One of us mods would be happy to test one for the community of course<cough>

What's the panel type? 20 inch 1600x1200 is made as SPVA and SIPS too, so that would be great, if these panels have their big viewing angles.
Any figure for input lag?
Can't you program an arduino for converting the obsolete COM output to USB mouse signals? I would pay extra for a good USB controller.

any update on this?
