Title: What type of wood should I use?

I have a Battlezone cabinet with no back panel. What type of wood should I use to replace it?

I'm leaning towards MDF, but I'd also like to be faithful to the original cabinet.

Thoughts?

Go with plywood.  Why add the additional weight of MDF for a backpanel?
