I have a Showcase cabinet that has a Hantarex Polo 1 33" monitor. The monitor is dead (doesn't turn on). Can someone recommend an alternative monitor for this cab? Perhaps a monitor that I can keep in the case?
thanks

It doesn't turn on? Have you decided that you do not want to repair this monitor? I think you should do a little more troubleshooting before giving up.
But If that is the case then there are a few options available.
The equivalent of a 33" arcade monitor is a 32" televison. It might be possible to fit a 32" CRT in there with some modification to the cab.
A 27/29" monitor or TV would have much better chance of fitting. It should just set on a shelf in the space where the old monitor was.
If you are into new games you might consider a wide-screen LCD as a replacement.
You will have to devise a new bezel to cover up the empty space around the screen.

I researched it about a year or so ago and a guy said I need to replace the bu508a or bu508af transistors. This is beyond my technical skills, hence this post. I really don't want to put an LCD monitor in here. Old school games look horrible on those

I think the best option is just to go with a replacement 33" arcade monitor then.
It's the least work and the best solution. The only downside is cost.
I've never heard anything bad about Nieman displays. They make a CGA monitor that will fit your cab:

Wells Gardner makes 33" D9200 and D9400 monitors.
I have also heard there is a Kortek 33" monitor. You might try looking for that.

Yes we still have about 40 tubes to do the 32" CGA arcade monitor.
I would be happy to help if you are intersted.
