Title: Medium Resolution Monitor Help
Post by: OverRide on October 29, 2009, 02:38:15 pm
I'm starting a new MAME project soon. I have a line on a couple different Medium resolution monitors but I not sure if this is the way to go.
Do you use an ArcadeVGA with medium resolution monitors (from what I can tell, no). And if not, what do you use?
How do the low res games look on a medium res?
Is this a good solution, or would a TV be better?
Thanks.

Should I maybe post these somewhere else? Just looking for a Yes or No/Pro or Cons on Medium resolution monitors.
Thanks for any help.

Unless you are trying to play just the Medium Resolution games a Medium Resolution monitor is a poor choice for a MAME cabinet.  >90% of games are CGA

That being said.  Some Medium Resolution monitors have a jumper to switch to CGA.

I believe your decision should be based, in part,  on what you plan to have your MAME rig do.  I initially had a 32" TV planned as my monitor.  It worked great for the MAME arcade games, but when I wanted to have the nice crisp look of pinball tables at higher resultions, I realized the TV was the Achilles heel.  I decided to go with a 19" CRT monitor, although I wish I had a larger monitor.  Personally I prefer the ability to have the higher resolutions as it gives more flexability for your MAME cab.
