Look at the button placement on the Robotron. Like a little kids writing, he ran out of room and wrapped the buttons down the side.  :lol

What's with the Joust marquee?  Is that printed on an 8.5x11 or did he trim an original down for some reason?

How did he get that robotron thing so DEEP?  It's hilarious.  Ya know, if I was building an LCD based arcade cab, I think I'd take standard dimensions but make it only half as deep so it'd take up less space in a room and to transport.  The LCD would allow you easily 'remove' the back half at the design stage, and just tuck the PC near the front.  Still lots of room inside for everything else. o.o

Considering the quality of the build,  that brown on the cabinets probably isn't paint.  Don't stand to close or you might smell it...

The bezel on the Joust is a nice touch.  Is that salvaged from remodeling his parent's house with vintage "wood panel" walls?  Class all the way!   :afro:

That's because he put the joust CP on top of whatever CP was there. Kind of slipped the joysticks from the first CP through. See how there's that massive overhang on the front?

The superimposed screenshots do it for me!

Is that original side-art on the Robotron?

I remember the picture, but not the story. What's his story again?

All I can recall is the "side art" is supposed to be actual photographs from a sports shop or something? Hence the weird acrylic protectors.

This guy was trying to sell this "heavily decorated" Track and Field cabinet on Ebay.  There was a thread about it so I took the images from the Ebay listing and put together the Epic Fail demotivational poster.

Fast forward a few months, I am reading a KLOV thread about Willis Joust CPOs and there is a link to the Joust cabinet, so I say to myself "Hey, I recognize that Ebay name... could it be Epic Fail T&F guy?"  Surely enough it was, not only did he have the Joust MAME cabinet for sale, but he also had the RoboMAME cabinet as well.

Didn't the guy have a webpage or something dedicated to the construction of that T&F? I swear I remember reading something about why it was built, how it was built, etc. Or did that all come from the aforementioned thread?

I'm not a purist, so I have a different take on things than some here.  But, that Mrs Pacman doesn't look all that bad to me.  Sure, the bezel is a bit odd, but it fits with the rest of the machine.  It's not completely hideous like those other machines.  Now, I'm not buying the thing, but for $300 (which is about double what I would consider paying in my area) I'm sure someone will be happy with a finished multicade machine.  Ehhh, whatever.   :dunno

Wrong colors on the Ms. Pac-Man, but it sort of looks ok, it is better than the others....

Is there a new level of being low? There has got to be something worse then an Epic Fail when it comes to that "Neck -N- Neck" Machine...

I mean looking at it the first thing the cab screams is "This Astroturf looks friggin Baaaaad, please help me, for all that is holy...help me...stop staring and get me the hell outta this predicament...you are still staring...is that joy in your eyes?!?!? HELP ME DAMNIT...HELP ME!!!!"

It wouldn't take that much to take this cab from unholy abomination to 'average'...just rip off the astroturf bezel, green grass CP artwork and replace with solid black.

EDIT: Oh and rip off Charlie the "pastel rider" from the CP as well ;)

He had some cool "close up" shots of this cab when he had it on ebay.  For those having difficulty seeing,  the marquee area is hollow with two freakin' boxing gloves shoved in there with a punchout marquee BEHIND the gloves.  Yes... it's that bad.

My immediate reaction to this travesty was "HE WASTED A PUNCHOUT CONTROL PANEL ON THAT PIECE OF JUNK?!"

IN defense of the indefensible.... The thing I love about BYOACers is that unlike the hard core arcade restorers, BYOACers are creative, and I love this forum because of all the nifty stuff I have seen.  So I think its kind of cool that he has incorporated these unorthodox elements, its too bad that he half asses everything else.... nix that, he quarter asses everything else.  Its almost like he has a checklist about what should be on an an arcade, I mean all the elements are there; marquee, coin door, t-molding, etc.  But he doesn't do anything well....

I wouldn't pay $100 for any of these cabs.

I think it is funny that he takes the time to put the original CPs in..but half-asses everything else including the artwork. What's the point? He should just slap a frankenpanel on and call it a day..

You are right. His ideas are sometimes great in spirit. Just horribly executed. For example, I could see how a pair of shiny red boxing gloves hanging off the side of a real Punch-Out machine might actually look cool.

I just realized he might just be a marketing genius. He may be taking a page from this guy's tactics, and selling proper machines as a result of the exposure:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/28/business/28borker.html?pagewanted=all (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/28/business/28borker.html?pagewanted=all)

To summarize: The guy in the linked article makes it a point to provide bad service to just enough customers that they post complaints about his website on all sorts of forums, Better business bureau, etc. He does this just up to the limit of what his credit card providers allow in terms of number of chargebacks per month. The end result: He gets page 1 Google search rankings thanks to all the complainers posting links to his site. Pure (evil) genius.

pile of crap + a few hours with a printer & a glue stick= $350

judging from the comments about his ebay auction, he's actually getting that much out of them.
