So I preordered a MW2 Elite to replace a launch-era 20gb pro, and I will need to move everything from the 20gb drive to the new 250gb. Microsoft doesn't sell a migration kit separately, only with the 120gb bundle in stores. I looked all over their site and found a form to request on in the UK, but it not available to the United States. I looked on eBay and theres TONS of cheap knock-offs. From what I can read of them, they are made to transfer files from a 360 drive to a PC, not from drive to drive and I don't know if I would trust a knock-off to my game saves and such. The official Microsoft kits sell for 30-40 bucks. I suppose I could buy one then resell it, but that would be a hassle.
Anybody happen to know of one of the $10 knock-off that will do what I want it to do with some reliability?

they don't work.
just went through that whole ordeal with my girlfriends 360. Don't get the knock-off crap. You need to stay official in this particular case.
Call the microsoft tech support and talk to a rep. Tell them what you are wanting to do and that you need a transfer kit. It'll cost about $15.00 I think. But cheaper than trying to get one on Ebay. And you know its the real deal. It'll take a couple of weeks to get to you most likely.

I got mine free when I called and told them I got an Elite to replace my launch 20GB console, but this was when elites first came out. Where do you live at, I might could lend you mine.

I PM'ed ya back for an address...

The transfer kits did not work with a 60 gig hd and I thought I'd read somewhere they only work with the 120 gig hd (remember, you need to load the software that came with the cable). Are you sure they work with the 250gig hd's?

I would assume the kit would work with the 250, but this is the first time a 250 has been released, so I can't be absolutley sure that it would work on this if they made it work on the 120.

it'll be in the mail tomorrow. I got horribly sick, still am, but it'll be on its way

Hey you didn't happen to send it Fedex did you? They tried to deliver something three days ago but missed me at home. They left a blank "We missed you" tag on the door and they haven't come back since. :dunno

My GF mailed it out for me, she always uses UPS, I'll give her a buzz tomorrow and be sure she actually sent it.
-
Alright. Thats cool.

Any word?
-
yeah, she forgot, your stuff and Haruman's will go out first thing in the morning on monday. This is what I get for relying on other people :p
-
Ha! That's fine. As long as I know whats going on I'm a pretty patient person.
-
dunno if I told you this or not but its already in transit via UPS and may even be there by now :)
-
Cool. Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow.

Got it a couple days ago, prolly a good thing it took a while as Xplorer360 hadn't been updated to work with the 250gb hard drives until recently. Worked like a charm with no major problems! Will be dropping it in the mail on Monday. Thanks again!

no problem, glad I could help and glad to hear it worked for ya

Whoops. I think I must have thrown away the box the cord came in. If you could PM your address to me that would be appreciated...

I purchased a 60gb HD to replace my 20gb HD on my 360. No transfer cable was included and the instructions make no mention of such a cable and said I can use a 'PC or USB device' to get data from one to the other (after calling Microsoft, they admitted that's a complete and total lie). Where do I get a legit transfer kit from to do this? No retailer sells it on its own that I have found. I don't want to use ebay or something that requires a PC (many third party ones do).
