I recently discovered quarts of sample paint from Sherwin Williams. The purpose is to put it up on a wall to see if it's the right color, but why couldn't I just use it to paint? It cost $5 for the same as much paint as a $15 regular quart. And I can't tell any difference. Is there a difference? Why is it so inexpensive?

I would hope that the samples are of the same quality as the paint would be, otherwise it wouldn't make for a good "sample". IMO
Sherwins site didn't offer much more info, but I did find this tidbit on another site that offered them.
This product is designed for color sampling and is available in eggshell sheen only. It needs to be topcoated with your choice of sheen and color of interior paint.
So I would assume if you are happy with that particular sheen it would.

Yeah . . . what I got was satin, and I'm under the impression that's all it comes in, but that's what I wanted. And getting a quart of the exact same color in satin if I don't ask for a sample costs $15. Amazing find, really.
