Whats up Guys! I stumbled across this site while checking on custom arcade cabs and seen a TON of you guys are working hard ! I posted my custom I finished a few weeks ago on shoryuken.com and I figured here would be a great place to share it also!
A few of weeks ago I started hitting Craigslist in the area looking for arcade cabs to see if I could make it into a MAME cabinet, and I looked and found Donavan Myers' Custom. So I checked Donavan's blog and really started looking at all his plans etc, and I saw the total cost and I said "I can do this!"
I have no prior building/painting/handyman skills at all but I wanted to do this so bad I just said screw it I'ma go buy all the materials. I already had all the electronics so the base material is all I needed. Needless to say after 2 weeks of getting friends tools, tinkering, figuring stuff out, painting and lacquering in the house lol..... I finished!
My build is based off Donavan's plans and I altered them to fit my liking. Mine is a bit taller than a real Vewlix standing at 63" for more leg room under the CP.
Some Specs:
30" Westinghouse HD Lcd
Ps3:
SF4, BlazBlue, MVC2, SF2HD, KOFXII
MAME Emulator:

Sharp Surround Sound System
If anyone has any questions feel free to ask, I will help with what I can.

Big Vewlix logo shot for everyone who was curious about the style of the vinyl etc.

Welcome to the forum :)
It looks fantastic, great job. If you had no woodworking experience prior to this then its even more amazing. Kudos to you sir :applaud:
-
wow that is fantastic looking.
How do you switch between the 360 and the PC? Are both on all the time and you just toggle switch between the two? Or do you have to open her up and swap some cables?
:banghead: damn I need to finish mine soon.
-
Build pics, man!
But nice job at any rate. Looks very clean :applaud:
Love that widescreen. The proportions are perfect
-
that is very impressive :applaud:

+1 For sure. Very sleek indeed.

Wait, I just noticed something. Is that big swath of what looks like text just below the screen something like instructions? :dizzy:
What games that complicated? Or is that info for all the games you play?
Reminds me of "combination move LOL Cat". Can't find it right off, but it was in a post here recently....
-
Move lists for different games. SFIV, 3rd Strike and BlazBlue. He basically put them all up on the cab instead of having to switch them out everytime he swaps games.
still looks cool though.
-
Oh, definitely. It really works well with the overall style of that cab. My brain would just explode trying to play that kind of game. Guess I'm more of a shmup fan :)

Thanks guys for all the comments!
@Gatsu: To switch i just peek around back and switch hdmi cables and its done.

You don't have two HDMI ports?

hmmm then how do you have the controls rigged up to switch? are you using some kind of USB splitter?
-
Looks awesome! It took me months to decide what to do with my Atari cab and you basically started and finished from scratch in 2 weeks? Amazing.
Btw, the links to the videos appear broken at least in my Firefox.

Radio Shack sells an HDMI switch if you are interested.
You cab looks fab!

Video links are good now!
The controllers are usb so i just switch to the computer and ps3 depends on what im playing
Thanks for the radioshack tip i will check that out!
Thanks guys!

That's pretty remarkable. If you hadn't shown the keyboard tray, I mighta thought you was pullin one over on us, cos that looks commercial grade, man. The only thing I'd make different (or try, if plausible) would be to reduce the under-casing for more lateral leg space.
-
Anyone know if an HDMI KVM switch with USB (if one exists) would work for something like this?
-
I don't suppose you could tell me where you got the graphics for those move list decals, or could give me the ones you made, could you?
Not for a cab, but as I do gaming rooms based on TVs and consoles, having laminated sheets of move lists to put out for particular games would be cool. :)
