I got an old Draw Poker from a local collector/friend of mine and decided to flip it too a mame cab and use any $$ gained (if any) for a DK restore. Will try and work on it throughout the winter.
Here are some pics of what one is supposed to look like and then one of the actual cab I got:

I'm thinking of just making it a simple 2 player 2-3 button layout for the classics. I got a LCD off of ePay for cheap and I think I got an old P3 lying in the backroom to throw in it.
I need ideas for artwork/painting. Don't want to spend alot of $$ on it. Just make it look nice and simple.
A pic of the cp and front holes filled. Any suggestions?

If anybody wants the dollar bill acceptor and coin mechs and old cp they are welcome to them. Drop me a PM. I was told they all work.
-
This looks awesome any updates? Pics? Oh and how much for that coin mech?
-
Thanks. Not much done on it yet. Got a LCD mounted and some wood filler applied. You want the coin mechs (that are attached to the cp) or the bill acceptor? Either one are yours just pay for shipping.
-
do you take money order? lol sorry i dont have paypal
-
Sure. What all did you want?
-
Got a little done on the project this week end. CP is all filled and ready for drilling. Monitor is installed tho I dont know if I like where its at. Pulled the old t-mold and stripped some state tax stickers off of it.

These games must be champion earners. I don't know how frigging old these things are, but I still see them in so many bars. My dads neighbor had a bar with 3 of them set to payout cash. Someone ratted him out and they were confiscated.
Nice sized cab for a conversion. They just remind me of bars and fun, I probably would have left it dedicated.
Edit: I just re-read your post. At first I didn't realize the machine on the top wasn't the actual machine you got.
-
Yup. The one I got was gutted. Guy was gonna toss it so I nabbed it. My Mom had a bunch of these in her bar too. Same thing happened. Flippin busy bodies.
-
Hey what happened to this? You done converting it?
-
No. Still working on it. I have slowed down because it's so freaking cold in my shop. I need to figure out a way to route out for my joysticks on the underside of the CP without having to use a "router". I don't have enough room to get it in there. :-\
Does anyone sell joystick handles that are extra long to fit a 3/4 thick wooden CP? Maybe that would be the way to go. :dunno
-
looks like a good base for a cabinet.
as for routing the panel for the joysticks, what about something like this:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=44914 (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=44914)
that is what i used for routing things on my cabinet. it has a very small footprint for tight spaces, plus it is really cheap.
what joysticks are you planning on using? some of them have long enough shafts to work fine under a thick wooden panel. you can get longer shafts for some of them, but they are not universal.
-
I might have to go invest in one of those. I never realized they were so cheap.
I believe what I have for j-sticks are Happ Ultimates. Just some cheap-o's. The handles I have are :censored: not long enough. I guess I could go looking on their site to see if they sell longer handles.
Thanks for the tips!!

Is that "woodgrain" on the sides laminate ? Are you going to paint right over it or.... ???
-
Yes. I'll rough it up first then prime and paint it. Probably just black. Open to suggestions tho.
