Just curious? :dunno
-
1.05 seems to work just fine on my Windows 7 pre-release virtual machine.
;D
-
I got Mala 1.05 running nicely in Windows 7 64-bit.
-
Thanks, I am sure there will be at least a minor issue that pops up with windows 7. :D
-
It runs great on the Win7 Home Premium release edition too. Some would hate to admit it, but this Windows release looks pretty good. I have three computers in the house running it. I did run into some trouble with Punkbuster in BF2 (PC Game), but it turned out to be a permissions issue and Firewall issue that was easily rectified. Not convince to put it in my dedicated cab though ;)

I actually experience something of a glitch using MALA 1.04 (just upped to 1.05, but issue persists) on Windows7 32-bit Home Premium. When scrolling through game list, an exception pops up and forces a close. The log it says to check contains the following:
2009/11/06 09:51:12.66 Error: Object Class: TTimer, Object Function: SaveTrackingInformation, Exception Class: Exception, Exception Message: Unable to write to C:\emulation\Utilities\MAME front ends\MALA\selection.ini
When scrolling through a 'favorites' list of ~100 titiles, it doesn't throw the exception as quickly as in the 'all games' list, where it will throw the error within a few seconds. I would have guessed the issue would be permissions, based on the error log entry. I made sure selection.ini file had full control permissions for all users, so not real sure what the deal is...

You need to install as administrator, but that's no big deal. Can be run in non-admin mode.
Seems to be working fine for me (Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit). No complaints. :)

As part of MaLa's startup routine I get it to check what version of windows it is running on.
I don't have a copy of Windows 7 yet
Can someone please run the program on the attached link to verify that it identifies Windows 7.
The program uses the same code as the next version of MaLa does to detect Windows version.

Thanks in advance

Anyone? :dunno
I am not asking you to run MaLa on windows 7 just the test program (above) please
-
In about a week, I'll be converting my workstation over to win7 64bit. I can give it a shot then.
-
I cant get that program to open properly in 64bit, Windows 7 Ultimate. It opens, but it wont actually appear on the screen (Although you can see what it looks like in the little preview window which appears).

For some reason, it loaded up halfway off my (widescreen) monitor, so maybe if you have a nonwide-screen monitor, it loaded all the way off the screen.
Anyway, this is what I get when I push ze button. (Running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Edition, for the record)
-
Thanks Guys.
Yeah I have two widescreen monitors so I did not notice.
Anyway thanks ;D

Did this get resolved yet? I'd be happy to do it for you.

I'm having the exact same issue runing MALA on MAME64 using Windows 7 64-bit and can't figure out what the deal is...

Is this some permissions problem on the files / directories?

Is this some permissions problem on the files / directories?
I don't think so...I've checked permissions and ownership on all the files and folders and everything's set to full control...even set the executable to run as administrator and still throw the same error....?
-
I think I got it....I had to go up a few directories but I found an "Account Unknown(S-1-5-21-105876806-972034957-33397...)" user in my security settings and after I gave that "user" full control over the proper directories...whammo!
I don't have an explanation as to why, but MALA works fine now without throwing any errors so I'm gonna shut up and play now!
-
For the record, I'm using the default Windows 7 UAC settings and didn't run into any problems with permissions. Not sure what the difference is between myself and tmcelveen that would help you narrow down the issue.
You running default UAC settings, tmc?
-
Did you do an upgrade of a system or a complete pave and reinstall of Win7?
I know in the past, upgrades can orphan user credential sets like that. I've had similar probs with Vista and even XP.
-
I did a clean install, if that helps.
Oh, I am running an admin account (even though I shouldn't), if that makes a difference.
-
Yeah, mine was a clean install too...had to since I went from 32 to 64 bit.
UAC is turned off.
I do have that folder as a network share...
-
And now the error is reappearing...it's weird though cause I can ignore the error and still play a game, it just throws the error whenever I try to scroll through my titles

I would recommend a clean install for a different OS

I just tested the version checker on win 7 32bit. "Is Windows 7"
I plan to put win7 64bit on the mame cab over winter break, so I should be able to test mala on it then.

im using windows 7 ultimate x64 and i've found that it will crash sometimes when it goes to load a video preview of a game. ive not had this happen in a while so i think i fixed it.
what i did was i made it "run as administrator" and since then it seems to be fine.
-
+1 Does seem to have something to do with admin privs.
I'm also running 1.62g under Win7 64bit ultimate.
I've actually been quite pleased with how resilient Mala is, given that I'm beating the hell out of it while debugging my Plugins (starting, terminating the process mid load, crashing plugins, that sort of thing)
-
FWIW, after installing Mala as an admin, I'm downgraded the user account to a non-admin and Mala still works fine. Not sure what issues others are having.
