Long story. Ordered ArcadeVGA PCIE along with crap load of other stuff from Ultimarc, been buying from Andy for long time. First ArcadeVGA bad. Sent it back. Andy confirmed it was bad.
Got second ArcadeVGA in today, its bad also.........
Ok so I was planning on turning on new Arcade this weekend and trying out brand new Wells Gardner D9800. But I have no video card.
I would like to stick with the ArcadeVGA if I can get one that works. But I need to start programming this Cab this weekend. If I use a normal video card and hook it up to the D9800 am I going to fry the D9800?? I read this on the Soft 15khz FAQ.
Whats the difference to using an ArcadeVGA?
The main difference is that you can use virtually any newer (more powerfull) adapter and also you could use multiple cards. However theres one drawback, the adapters output normal 31KHz VGA signals before entering windows.
Any dangers for my adapter or my screen?
For your screen however, theres a slight risk of damage, hence the adapters output standard 31KHz VGA signals until windows boots up.
There are nice security gadgets like the Ultimarc J-PAC, that filter out bad signals.
I do not know what this means. Plz help.
I was hoping the ArcadeVGA would take care of all the resolution problems with a plug and play card but I cant get one to work.
Thx

What's the problem you're havign with the card that you say it's not working? I had problems installing mine last night also. I finally got in installed, and it's showing as the ArcadevGA card in the device manager, but it's giving an error. I'm going to look at it tonight when I get home. I originally thought my card was bad, because no matter what I did, it wouldn't recognize the drivers. I think most people had that problem. Is that what you're running into?
As far as your question about not using the ArcadeVGA card, I want to know that too. i've asekd people and they said I don't need it, but I've also read that you do need it. X-Arcade sells that monitor and they don't say anything about getting the card with it. Just hook it up to your pc is what they say. Hopefully somebody can chime in for us.

The first card yes, the drivers would not install no matter what I did. But Andy confirmed it was bad when I sent it back to him.
The second card is doing stuff ive never seen. When you boot the computer it gives a long string of letters and numbers in the top left corner like where/when your video bios loads. it removed the Intel wallpaper that shows when you first boot the computer (like the BIOS screen). And when you do go into the BIOS the words are all messed up and the screen is off center. Every line in the bios has a question mark in it. Like it will say;
Intel Spee?tep
or
Intel mem?ry
Its really strange. never seen something like that before.
I confirmed that it was the ArcadeVGA causing all this because I put in a Nvidia card and all that stuff went away. Like the Intel BIOS wallpaper was back, and the BIOS did not display the question mark thing anymore.
Now I did get the drivers in windows to load on this second card but when they load the screen goes black with a blinking cursor in top left of screen. I then have to reset.
So I am trying to research this Soft 15k thing to see if I can use that but i would rather use an ArcadeVGA. its a much easier solution from what I have read.
As far as hooking the D9800 up to a pc and turning it on yes it will work. It will show windows up to 800x600 but I am worried about the frequency. I dont wanna damage it. Also I want the original resolutions like what the ArcadeVGA provides.
Thx

I had the same black screen with the blinking cursor. When I used the tool in their website to remove all the old drivers, it went away. Have you tried that? I wonder if the card i'm having problems with, also has a problem. These cards seem to be hit or miss. It's really aggravating. I'll try tonight and post my findings.

Yes I tried that. Prob traded 10 emails with Andy trying to fix it. Had to send it back.
Like I said though the first one was confirmed dead by Andy. This second one I have no idea whats wrong with it.

Okay.
read monitor wiki
...in the mean time, yes, you can use a 'regular' card with that monitor....
but read the monitor wiki so's you know why, and so's you undestand 'native resolution' display
