They only go for 350-400 brand new and sealed on Ebay.  I would just buy a 250gb Modern Warfare 2 one instead.  They are 400...

...and they don't come modded. They don't come with 2 extra controllers and a charging station. They don't even come with any sort of HD a/v cabling.

The op's offer is a pretty decent deal.

sounds good actually. only "problem" I can think of is if its banned from xbox live or ever got any random red rings or any other problems. buying used 360(even with newer boards) is kind of a gamble. Id buy a brand new one if I were you. that modern warfare xbox looks really good imo.

you dont buy things online without being able to test it in person. unless its someone with good feedbacks from other buyers. like when I sold bunch of brand new 360s here. no one ever complained about anything I sold around here. thats how you know you are not getting ripped off. its just easier and less headace to go with brand new sealed game consoles.

I would demand proof that it works.

The deal is REALLY good, but if say, it red ringed and he modded it, he can't use the warrenty so he might be selling a brick.

The guy has 33 good trades on the board we both belong to and the box was modded by someone I've done business with a couples of time, no problem.
So I'm reasonably confident of the source.

Is the RROD still as frequent a problem as it was a couple years ago?

I'm leaning toward going for this one, the owner is in the military and just got back from deployment so I assume (yeah I know) that the system would have less than average usage for a console that was new in April.  I'm pretty much a solo gamer so LIVE isn't much of an issue, but I will ask him about it.

I just wanna play some of the newer FPS and it's cheaper to get the XBOX 360 than keep trying to upgrade PCs and graphics cards.  I've dumped $$ down that bottomless pit before, not willing to do any more.

Soooo, $300 for the deal or $400 for new XBOX 360, $50 plus shipping to mod,
plus costs for additional controllers, charger, cable etc., well over $500 total.

I'm awaiting his return email, keep posting, I'll consider all input before making a commitment to buy.

Thanks again all!

If it is a Jasper it should be fine.  The Jasper mother boards since introduced have only demonstrated since August 2008 when it was released.  A document released in August 2009 suggested that the one year failure of the Jaspers was only 4%, which is a bit high but still an acceptable industry standard.  Of course, that's only one year and that could go up as the machines age.  It is a bit hard to tell but the picture does look a lot better.

Then agian, any consumer electronics has a percentage of units that'll just randomly die on you.  Being a modded unit, MS won't support it if that happens.  But 4% isn't that bad of risk to take.

I still say the Modern Warfare 2 Xbox is the better deal.  It comes with:

BRAND NEW XBOX 360 Special Edition
250gb Hard Drive (Cannot get this hard drive any other way)
(2) Wireless Controllers
Modern Warfare 2 Game
HDMI Cable
AV Cables

All that for 400.  Modding is easy and if you are anywhere near Bowling Green, KY I would mod it for less than $50.  The new Lite-On drives in the Xbox 360s don't need any soldering or even a probe to flash.  Just an NForce SATA or VIA SATA chipset.  Not saying the Resident Evil one isn't a good deal...  Just the Modern Warfare 2 one is a better deal.

How is it a better deal? It comes with one less controller and costs $100 more. Yeah, the drive is bigger, but who the hell even fills up the 120GB drive?

I certainly wouldn't call it a bad deal, but I don't see how it is somehow better.

You can get HDMI cables off Ebay for like $5.  My bad on thinking it had one.  If that is a major selling point for someone then I don't know what to say...

It comes with one less controller, true, but Xbox 360 controllers get worn quickly and I can't stand to not have the nubs on the analog sticks.  My brother has been through 4 or more wireless controllers since COD4 came out.  They start to drift when used excessively.  I would take two brand new controllers over 3 used ones anytime.  Will he ever actually have 3 people playing the system anyway?

The 250gb hard will be more valuable in the long run.  The new Lite-On (and Benq) DVD drives in Xbox 360s are much slower than the Samsung and Hitachi drives.  They might be the same 12x speed but they load noticeably slower.  You use your bigger drive to install games to the hard drive.  Since the modded system is a selling point for him he might just have a ton of games to load on the hard drive.  You never know.

It does not cost $100 if you include the shipping he will be paying to get the system to him.  If he orders a COD:MW 360 he won't have to pay shipping either.

To each his own.  He just asked for opinions and the RE5 360 is a good deal, as I said before.  I just wanted to give him options.  Hell, there was a Promo Code floating around for Dell where you could get a new Elite for $255 with free shipping as well.

Taxes can be just as bad as shipping. :P

HDMI cables can indeed be bought cheap, but it is an added cost none the less. That is providing one can even use HDMI. If you need component it is going to be quite a bit more than $5 for a 360 component a/v cable.

All things said and done though... The deal for the op is a good one. It is $100 less, give or take a few, and that is a substantial difference.

I guess, if you are big on game installs and tv show downloads, then the bigger hdd could be of importance, but I still have over 90GB free on my 120, and I doubt that I will ever fill it up. There is no way I'd pay $100 more just to have 250.

I still have 8 gig left on my 20 gig drive.  I did pre-order a MW2 360, but I will probably never open it.  :)

Yeah, man, $20 is actually reasonable.

$50 to crack open an Xbox and flash the drive?  That had me LMFAO.

Agreed. I'll keep SNAAKE in mind if I buy a 360 in the future and run into any trouble with the mod.

Must not have been meant to be.  Dude didn't return emails and a few days later had mods close the thread because he sold it.  Ah well, patience...BUT I WANT IT NOW!

Can you relate?  :dizzy:

Hell, nearly new elites are going for ~ $200 here on Craigslist.
Need to calm down and be picky, look for the Jasper.

Yeah but how much is safely shipping an Xbox 360 gonna cost you?  They arn't exactly super light or small.

$20 could be a good deal locally, but to have to ship the Xbox, if it costs you more than $30 to ship it there and back, the $50 local is a better deal.  And you don't have to worry about it ending up in Abu Dabi.  Though I'm sure the effeminate grey cat would enjoy having something to do while he's there.
