Title: Opinions on Sanwa JLW-TM8 please?
Post by: LeedsFan on October 14, 2009, 03:33:48 am
I'm looking to build an inexpensive controller just to plug into my PC and I've been looking at this stick......

It will be a single player controller but with dual sticks for Smash TV and Robotron.

I don't play many fighters at all and stick mainly to classic 4-way and 8-way games. Because of this the first stick must be easily switchable between 4 and 8 way. I don't mind opening the lid to do this, but some sticks have that lift off/screw on restrictor which I'm not sure is very durable. (It will get swapped a lot).

I like sticks to be light and have a short(ish) throw. I'm not fussed how noisy it is. That's probably the least of my concerns. Mainly how each mode feels in games and how light/stiff the throw is.

I'm a huge fan of the U360's and was gonna go with a pair of those. But of course that's about twice the cost. For a small project like this I'm prepared to try something new.

EDIT:  I've been doing a bit more digging around. Seems that the J-Stick sold by Ultimarc is this exact stick (JLW not JLF). I might even consider the Mag-Stik for the switchable 4/8 way. The only thing that puts me off the Mag Stik is that I used to have some T-Stik+ joysticks on an old cabinet and I really didn't like those at all. I found them way too stiff and the throw was very short. The short throw might not be such a problem if the stiffness was reduced though.

Hmmmm... after doing some more digging around it seems my only real option is gonna be the U360s (for my requirements at least). Officiandos of Robotron say that the #1 priority on any stick for that game is to have circular restrictors. If that's the case then I must follow suit if I am to invest in a second stick on a solo unit.

That means no switchable way between 4-way and 8-way on the first stick... unless I go with U360s and map on the fly.  :dunno
