Title: Exidy 440 MultiKits - Open For Preorders
Post by: CheffoJeffo on October 13, 2009, 07:33:08 am
For those who love the classic Exidy shooters, Dave and Mike have opened up preorders for the 440 kit:

Quote
We are finally ready to open preorders up starting tonight (10/11) for the next two weeks- maybe a little longer for those that only get paid once a month, and then cut it off and build the kits we have orders for.

The price will be the same as before, $350 including the kit, t-shirt, and shipping via Priority Mail. I'll take deposits and then notify everyone when they're built, tested, and ready to ship for balances due, shipping will be in the order final payments are received. There is no limit on the number of kits per person.

Each one will be numbered X out of total orders, and each one will be licensed by Exidy. This will be a one shot deal with the set-ups and minimums, and there won't be any stock for future orders.

The deposit will be $125 per kit via Paypal to: kilkeeslps@aol.com

Once all the orders are in, we'll order PCB blanks (usually 2 to 3 weeks) and components, assemble, test, and ship. I'll provide updates each week, and possibly via Rotheblog if they choose to cover the project.

Installation instructions are at:

http://widel.com/files/440inst.htm (http://widel.com/files/440inst.htm)

Titles are:

1 Crossbow
2 Cheyenne
3 Combat
4 Crackshot
5 Chiller
6 Clay Pigeon
7 Hit 'n Miss 3.0
8 Who Dunit
9 Catch-22

I so want one... but I've not come across an Exidy cab locally in the 3+  years I've been in the hobby... but man... I may just buy to "have" until I DO come across one.  I wonder if I could hook this up in my Terminator 2 cab somehow...

I hadn't come across any Exidy 440s (well, I was only looking for Cheyenne or Crossbow) locally ever, until about 3 months ago ... I now know of 4 local Crossbows and 2 local Cheyennes (one of is now mine). Exidy folks seem to lay low until you find them ... I now know of 2 local Death Races as well.

A multi-Exidy shooter is one of my grails and I dig that these boards will be licensed ... to my mind Exidy has been pretty damned good to us as a community with respect to their IP.

Is at least one of those Gerald's?

Ray -- yes, one of those is Gerald's. The other one is a yellow Death Race, like the one at FunSpot (as mentioned in GRM).

I finally moved my Cheyenne into the basement today ... and the heavy ---smurfing--- cab killed my old and faithful dolly. RIP.

I also saw the following posted over at KLOV:

Exidy Multi Shooter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XApjaRaaYBE#)

After playing a few rounds of Cheyenne, I am SOOOOO hungry for this kit.

I may be an old man, but I don't think that any subsequent series of shooters provided the player with as much fun as the classic Exidy shooters (and the gun fixture is totally awesome and, IMO, superior to everything that came afterwards).

I just hope that I have the proper caps in my existing kit to effect the required repairs on the monitor on Friday night (when Mrs. Cheffo is out dancing and I am home with the would-be snipers).

That sucks for the latecomers. :(

Turn that frown upside down -- they are still open for preorders.

I don't own an Exidy and I have no idea if I'll ever own one. And there is no way the dominate female unit will let me buy a $350 piece of hardware while she's on maternity leave. I guess my only chance of owning such a board is via the aftermarket and the subsequent ass reaming.

Alas, like they say on Avenue Q, "sucks to be me."  :'(

I would figuratively kill for that Death Race artwork though.

Final payment sent -- he starts shipping tommorrow!

I'll finally get around to pulling and rebuilding the monitor tomorrow night in anticipation (I eventually found a source for that big filter cap on the 4900 and finally have everything ready to go).

Here is what the front and back of the t-shirts look like:

I am so totally excited about this!

My understanding is there are only six of these kits still available.....and that was a few days ago.....so definitely jump on it if you plan to have one as I understand it now that there will not be another run of them.

I did see someone want to order one today.

Yeah, not to be run ever again and the ROMS are encrypted so a knockoff is not likely.

EDIT: I misread Kevin's post and have adjusted accordingly

027 has escaped from the Canuckistanian Postal Detention Centre and has landed!

Wonderfully packaged and I didn't get dinged for duties, taxes or fees.

It's going to be a long day waiting to install this puppy!

My hat is off to Mike, Dave and those who pestered them -- the process was very well managed (unlike other recent preorder projects that I can think of) , I love the t-shirt and can't wait to get this thing installed.

Man that looks awesome.  I ordered one and I don't even have a cab to put it in.  (I do have a lead on a Crossbow)

There are a couple of glitches (sound levels vary between games and free play isn't available on all games), but is otherwise amazing.

Further good news is Dave is already talking about working on version 2.0 EPROMs.

Have you ever watched somebody play a game that they were born to play ? My elder son asked me tonight if he could play Chiller (to take a run at my score). I decided that would be OK (Chiller is a bit on the extreme side).

Well, he went to pause the game at 6.4 Million (time to watch Canada vs Slovakia) and accidentally reset it, but it looked to me like he could have kept playing for hours.

Granted, that was with a 70-second time limit, but it is still a nice score and he could definitely make a run for the record ... or at least a convincing #2.

Tomorrow I reset the dips to TG tournament settings and he begins his training ... and I start to hunt down an actual Chiller boardset.

I think this will be the last post in this thread, barring announcement of a ROM update from Dave.

Mike has posted that he may have extra kits available beyond the pre-orders if there are any folks who are interested, let him know ASAP to get on the standby list:
