Do magnets make the newer lcds and 1080P screen tv's go weird still?
I am thinking I am going to get a new monitor soon here and my pc desk has 2 subs and 4 sattelite's and I was wondering if magnets still make the screens go crazy on there newer lcd's and tv's.
I dont want to get a new one and cause screen damage becuase I have to many speakers to close to it if there still anything like the CRT's.
I never owned any lcd's except the PSone lcd screen so I dont know much about them but am thinking I am finally ready to go from a crt tv to 1080P after all these years ;D

LCDs are made from a fixed pixel matrix, and plasmas are of a similar design (with plasma cells instead of pixels).
Older CRTs are Cathode Ray Tubes.
This is important to understand, because the "guns" in a crt are what is affected by magnets. These guns don't exist in an LCD or a Plasma panel, so therefore, NO, they are not affected by magnets.
Note: I'm still a large beginner to this hobby, and this is only my understanding. Anyone feel free to correct me if i'm off base on this.

Magnets do not affect the pic on an LCD.

cool my desk is perfect for a 27" but the way the speakers are setup I was afraid it may have been to close if it did effect them.
I would rather ask then ruin a few hundred dollar setup :D

It took me a long time to make the jump to LCD's as well.
I picked up a Dell 2405 (24" Computer display, not an HDTV) and have been very happy with it, going on 3 years now.
Go For it. Magnets won't hurt them. The only thing to watch for is the viewing angle.
If you're likely to view it off center, make sure you take a look at one powered up before you buy. It's almost impossible to know whether a particular model has a panel in it that's got a good range of viewing angles from the specs (most aren't terribly accurate or stretch the truth just a tad)
