I want my coin mech to take only tokens and no other coins. :P
I can remember as a kid at chucky cheese that the cabs wouldn't take quarters, only tokens. But isn't a token slightly bigger than a quarter. What would keep a quarter from activating the switch.
I have a happs coin door and mech but no tokens yet. Anyway, I have been playing around with it and I think I got how it works. I also read the "how to make a coin mech accept tokens" on the arcadetoken site.
I guess my question is, once I file down the plastic to make my mech accept tokens will it still accept quarters? Again my goal is to have a coin mech that only takes tokens. :dizzy:

Depends on the particular coin mech and whether it's all mechanical or electronic.
-
I've never done it, but I did just see this video the other day and wonder if this is what you're after:

All of mine take quarters, but it would be pretty fun if I had a bunch of tokens to change them, let us know if this works.

In the one I have there are magnets to insert if you dont want to accept quarters, its a happ one. The magnet stops anything that a magnet will attract from being accepted. I took mine out though since I wanted tokens and quarters to work.

Quarters aren't magnetic though, so how would inserting magnets stop it from accepting quarters?

most mechanical mechs have small adjustment screws that you can move to make it reject coins based on size. the mechs on my Donkey kong cabinet have a little bar that slides up and down. this bar has a groove in it for the top of the coin to roll along. if the coin is too tall, it will not enter the chute properly. if it is too small, it falls out of the chute into the reject area.
you should be able to get it to work, but it would be hard to say how without seeing the coin mechs

Canadian quarters are most certainly trapped by the magnet, thats why I removed it.
Happ sells token only mechs, but I don't know anything about them.

And there we have my ignorance of the rest of the world. :dunno
No US coins are magnetic.

My coin door looks just like the Happs one VERSAPACK linked up but it is black and has red levers. Mine takes a quarter well but it looks like I will need to mod it to accept quarters.
I noticed that the Happs link offered one that took tokens only. So whats the difference betwee that one and mine? {besides the plastic I will need to file away to make the lever Go back far enough to accept the larger size token} ???
Is it a matter of weight? :dunno

DIAMETER of the coins/tokens is the #1 factor.
Does your coin mech have a part number of any kind on it ?
Is yours more like the IMONEX type ? http://www.happcontrols.com/coindoors/42303600.htm (http://www.happcontrols.com/coindoors/42303600.htm)

Quarters aren't magnetic though, so how would inserting magnets stop it from accepting quarters?
According to the manual for my Happ Ultimech:
" Features ... Metal content check by a magnet used to create eddy currents within a coin passing in front of it which slows down the coin according to the metal content."
Later, from 'Operations':
"The coin then passes by the magnet. If the coin is not magnetic, the magnet will not slow the coin and it's speed when it leaves the rail will carry it pas the accept side of the coin chute into the reject side. If the coin is ferromagnetic, such as a steel slug, it will stick to the magnet. The magnetic properties of a genuine US $.25 coin will slow the coin just enough to allow it to fall off the rail into the accept side of the coin chute."
That's what Happ says, I can't verify it!

Interesting.
I don't know how strong those magnets would have to be in those things then, because using a rare earth magnet doesn't seem to have any sort of attraction what so ever on any of my US coins. :dunno

I asked a friend who is a physics student, and he tells me that yes, things can interact with a magnetic field in these ways without actually sticking to a magnet at all.
He actually said a LOT of things, but that's the only part I can remember well enough to repeat. :)

It looks a lot like the standard plastic 42 3115-00. I cant find any numbers on it but it does have a sticker that says Happs and another that says $ .25
My best guess is that the L shape sizing lever or the cradle is what needs to be adjusted or modified. :timebomb:
But what would keep a quarter from going through? :banghead:
