I can't seem to use my joystick (left and right) to leave the OK screen on Mame (mamep variety)..this is a problem for me as i am using a cabinet for Mame..i am probably missing something simple but can't quite work out what it is..((i've already reconfigured the keyboard settings via mamep)
I would appreciate any help.. :)

Could you say what encoder you are using and have you checked the joystick operation in windows?
-
If you reconfigured the keyboard settings, it may be that P1 left and P1 right aren't mapped to "O" and "K".
-
They aren't usually mapped to that anyway.

i've noticed the problem to It happens to me when i'm using the madcatz sf4 te ps3 stick on my main PC I've not tried to find a solution to the problem since i'm not using the stick on my mame cab

Yep, everything is working in windows and the actual Mame games..it's just getting past the OK screen using the joystick that's the problem...i'm using a generic USB encoder..been googling and can't find an answer yet...i'm sure it must be a simple solution.

So while in Windows.... if you open something like Notepad and move the joystick left and right..... what does it type ?
And then be certain that MAME has those keys also mapped the same to the letters "O" and "K".

I reinstalled Mame and made a new .ini file and it's all working as it should now..weird...thanks all.

FWIW, mame is looking for 'O' or (whatever that's mapped to mame's) UI_left, then 'K' or UI_right. Joystick 1 is mapped by default to player 1 left and right and UI_left and UI_right. If you want to be able to wiggle any joystick on your 4 player CP, map all of them to mame UI_left and UI_right.
Sound like OP's default.cfg file (specifically UI_left or UI_right or both) got messed up.
