Title: Blue Coin Reject Buttons on a Coindoor, Possible?
Post by: DiskTwo on October 09, 2009, 09:58:57 am
I have a coin door that was given to me. I stripped and repainted it, and it looks great. It looks exactly like the Happ Coindoor however it is something else.

I tried purchasing these

http://www.happcontrols.com/cc/420517xx.htm

Along with new Happ bezels for their coindoor, hoping that would work

But, once I got it all in, the new bezels wont fit. They stick out pretty far, and dont line up quite right

What I really really want to finish my cabinet is blue coin reject buttons. Is it at all possible by any means other than purchasing a $100 coin door from happ? I went way over my limit after my first week of working on this thing 3 years ago lol, Im trying to cut back.

Once I get home tonight I can attach any requested pictures if needed. Any advice would be great  ;D

It's hard plastic- maybe whittle down the extra to make it fit?

I'm not sure if it will be possible but pictures would help.

Could you get a picture of the old and new rejects together?

Ill post some pics tonight when I get off work. I hadnt really thought too much into shaving down the plastic, but that may be possible. Ill look while taking the pics to see if I can make them fit if shaved.

Many coin doors can look alike but actually aren't.

Let's see pictures of the door and it's original parts.

It wouldn't help for their color when off, but I would bet you could light the reject buttons with blue LEDs and have a pretty good result. I've got a yellow reject button lit with red LEDs and you can't tell they are not red buttons when lit.

Red + ??? = Blue

Yeah, I get it, but my point was that the color of the LEDs so overpowers the color of the buttons themselves that it might work. As always YMMV.

Ahhh, so you are saying that the filter (translucent coin reject button) will not significantly affect the LED's color.  So by putting a blue LED in there, you will get a blue (maybe slightly violet) light when viewed.

I was hoping to get some pink ones but I abandoned it a while ago...  if someone figures something out that isn't too painful I'd be interested...

LOL.  Yellow + Green is how we used to make puke color in grade school art class...  Definitely not blue...  ;)

Yeah, I know..... my mom's has been in the art field for many many years and therefore I have been color theory brainwashed..... point being that yes, you can mix two colors whether it be a light through translucent plastic or whatever to create different effects. (trial and error)
Blue being a primary color can't be re-created by mixing two other colors.
But say you have a yellow reject button and a strong enough blue LED, you may get a somewhat blue effect. (IF it's a strong blue)

Red + White for pinks......

But once again, none of these effects will show when light is off obviously.

All of my stuff tends to come out somewhere in the Burnt Sienna range.  :lol

Just tried it. With a standard Happ yellow reject button and a 5V blue LED from GGG, the end result is an aqua color. If inclined to, you could drill through the back of the reject button housing and mount the LED there, which would mean it would only have to shine through one layer of yellow, not two. It would take some effort, but between that and possibly using two LEDs, it could be done.
