Title: wire gauge question and coin door wiring
Post by: theob42 on October 07, 2009, 12:52:36 pm
hey guys, read yo wire up my forst cp and was wondering if its ok to wire up buttons and ground using the same thickness wire. i normally hear 22-24 awg for the buttons but a ticher 18 or 20 awg for the ground. i have a bunch of 18 awg. would it matter if i used that for all connections? any benefit?

also while im at it. how would i wire up a button AND the coin mech at the same time (going into the ipac4) so that the person can either put a quarter in or push a button for a credit?

thanks guys!

I used 22 awg for everything.

For the coin mech / button question, either run two wires out of the coin input on the ipac, or run one with two quick disconnects on it.

you can use any of those ga you mentioned, the wires for the buttons have extremely small amount of power going though them.

and the coin door lights are'nt gonna draw much either you should be safe with just about any wire you can find.

EDIT: with the ipac you got 2 choices, 1 run the wire to both the coin switch on the door & to a button some where else.. OR run different wires to the coin door & the button.. and then assign both buttons "coin" in mame

both solutions work.. one is a physical (hardware, hardwired) solution.

and hte other is done in software..

if you use mame to assign it coin then you can always change it later to something else, but if you wire them together you'll have to open it up and physically change the wiring if you decide you wanna change it to something else.

if you have inputs to spare then i suggest going with the separate input solution and just telling mame that the button is also coin.

oh great! good idea. I think ill just use a different input then since its simpler. plus 2 of the 4 joysticks im using are u360's and im gonna sue the usb connector for them so i have 8 extra inputs free. i had no idea that you could assuign two different keys for one button in mame.

ya when remapping inputs if you dont move and try to remap again it will include it for that function.

select "coin", press enter, hit button 1, pres enter again, hit button 2

it'll say something like COIN: button1 OR button
