I just switched from mameUI32 to MALA for my cabinet. For some reason MALA isn't playing certain games and I have no Idea why. In particular it seems that no NEOGEO games are working. But they do work with mameui32. (Before anyone says it, I do have the neo geo bios) I copied the whole roms folder from mameui to MALA, so everything should be there. When I select a game it seems to boot up like normal for a few seconds and then it quits and goes right back to the game select screen. Can anyone help me????? I really like MALA and it would be a shame to have to switch between different frontends in order to play all the games I want. Thanks.

Mala has its own forum; link is at the top. You said you copied the roms folder from mameui to Mala. Did you mean you copied it to the roms folder for the command line version of Mame?
Mameui32 is a version of mame that has a gui built in (similiar to a frontend). Mala is strictly a frontend. You still need Mame, preferrably the command line version of Mame to work with Mala. Mala, like most frontends, allow the use of other emulators and is not married solely to Mame.
If you already knew all this, and I just misunderstood, you need to start mame and a rom up from a command line window so you can see what the error is. For example:
Start>Run>
CMD <ENTER>
CD \MAME
MAME dkong

thanks for replying SGT. To be more clear, MALA works with certain games (i have the command line version of MAME version .0134 or sth). I think my problem is the certain games, for example Metal Slug, are not supported by the version of mame I have. I found another thread that talks about telling mala to use certain mame.exe's depending on the game you select (by using batch files). This is what I need because when I manually point mala to a different .exe that I know to work with Metal Slug, and then try it, it works fine. I don't know how to use the batch file to get Mala to automatically switch .exe's though. I'm waiting for a reply on that other thread about how to do it. Could you help me out with this?
- actually I just came across your thread:http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=68419.0
this appears to be what I need, so I will read it and see If I can figure it out.

Sorry for misunderstanding. Usually you just need to update your rom set to fix the kind of problem you are referring to. You may already know this, but roms change frequently. Rom sets need to match mame versions pretty closely.
If your Mame version is .134, metal slug is supported. However it will not work if you are using an old enough rom set. Usually you would only want to use a batch file to run different versions of mame when a particular game may run better or faster with an older version of mame (though there are exceptions).
You probably already knew all of the above, but just making sure.

Ok. thanks. I will try to download some more current roms and see if that fixes the problem.
