been looking for the 'Best' component cable for the Nintendo Gamecube, been wanting to play Rogue Squadron II on my new HD TV and would like to get the best pic quality possible. I recall Nintendo's offical component cable being rather expensive back in the day, it had green, blue & red colors (RGB) for the better Video quality. And I also see another cable that has an s-video instead. Wondering what route I should go
Am I right in thinking S-video is a step up from the regular cable that shipped with the GC & Component is a step up from S-video, I know it will only be 480p, and not all games are 480P compaitable
could I get away with using a Wii component cable with the GC?
suggestions?

The GC's component cables are rare and expensive. This is because it connects to the GameCube's digital output port which was removed on later models. This port basicly just puts out digital frame data. There's actually DAC hardware in the component cables that process the digital image information and convert it to analog video signals. ...So it was more than a set of cables.
Also the digital video port was removed on later GameCubes to save on construction costs.
You'd probably find using the Wii a lot easier. Especially as it's component cables are on store shelves for like $20 or so.

And available for about $3 from third party sources.
Best cost/signal on the GC is the s video cable if you can still find them. They run around $10-12. You can get component cables for $20-30 usually.

You're assuming he has a Wii. If he does not that cable is useless to him.

oh I didnt know it doesnt work with gamecube. might as well just get a wii. its so cheap now(100-150 on craigslist)
gamecube hd cable is stupid expensive. more than the console it self lol..

yeah I dont have a Wii, I just :dunno assumed it would work with the GC, seeing as the N64 & GC cables were very identical, I should have bought the Component cable for $30 when I had the chance, its crazy the cable is more than a GC, GC's are easily had for 20 - 30 bux, hmmmm, I will keep looking, appreicate all the input though.

You can get the GC component cable for $30 or less if you look around. I saw it at that price on Amazon when I looked yesterday. Note that you'll still need an a/v cable since the GC component cable carries video only. Sound has to come from the other one.

if you want 480p output on the gamecube, you must use the component video cable, anything less will only give you 480i. that being said, it is difficult to find cheap component video cables for the gamecube (you also have to make sure your gamecube has the extra port on the back for it, the newer models are lacking this port)
with the price of the Wii just dropping to $199, i'd be looking at picking up a Wii, along with the wii component video cables. THough it is more money than just buying a component cable for your gamecube, it provides you with alot more functionality. there are some really good wii games out there, plus you can play your gamecube games on it. it just seems stupid to me to spend $50 or so on a set of cables for an obsolete game console.

It is worth noting that it's probably less than half of the library that supports 480p and a good amount of those games are sports games you'll never want to play now. The first party games usually are usually 480p compatible, so if you're into those, the cost of the cable is worth it just for the Metroid, Zelda, and Mario games.

GC's are easily had for 20 - 30 bux, hmmmm, I will keep looking, appreicate all the input though.
Or $10 at a garage sale. Hit a neighborhood sale, and you'll find a few, though you'll have to haggle for that price.
