Title: PC doesn't show "loading" screen or play startup sound
Post by: jasonbar on October 04, 2009, 05:53:51 pm
Howdy-

One day, many months ago, my PC decided to stop showing its Windows XP "loading" screen w/ the "progress bar".

It also decided to stop playing the Start Windows sound that I assigned in the Sounds control panel.

I tried using Bootskin last week on my cab to add a loading screen, but it didn't show the new skin--just a blank black screen still.  (I first tested Bootskin on my laptop successfully, to be sure I knew how to use it.)

Now, I know that a lot of people go through some effort to remove the Windows loading screen & my PC went ahead & did that for me spontaneously.  Maybe I should be grateful, but I'd like to mess around w/ Bootskin to try out a custom loading screen and get a startup sound too.

Any ideas?  Did something flip in my registry to disable these items?

Thanks,
-Jason

Sounds like you have turned off GUI Boot..

Try the following:
Launch MSCONFIG (Click the Start orb/button. Search for MSCONFIG).
Click on the Boot tab.
Uncheck the No GUI Boot checkbox.
Click the OK button.

Reboot and see if it helped.

Hey hey!!!

Thanks!!!!

I never ever would have found that.

It brought back my Windows XP "loading "screen.

I don't remember turning this off in the past, but odds are that I did & forgot... :-[

However, I still don't have the "Start Windows" sound play.  Perhaps that's because my shell is now MaLa & not Explorer?

Thanks,
-Jason

I have maximus Shelled and there's no Windows startup sound there either.
