It seems to me that all the MK series Roms are quieter than other games.
Is there a way to "normalize" game volume in any version of MAME?
Until I get some kind of external volume control I do not want to have to fiddle with my speakers which are hard to access.
Any ideas?
Thanks in Advance.

You can't normalize but you can adjust and it'll stay. Use + or - to turn it up or down, if its not loud enough press tab and adjust the slider controls for the volume settings.

In MK, NBA Jam, and other Midway titles, you'll need to hit F2 and go to the volume setting.
There's no way to normalize the audio in MAME, but you can at least turn the volume up on those games.

Thank you everyone.
However I know how to adjust the volume in MAME. The problem is it seems the volume level goes back down every time I restart. However it is new cab and I am doing a lot of fiddling so perhaps that has something to do with it.
Once I am done setting up my FE I want to tuck my keyboard away and never see it again.
So if there is no way to normalize is there at least some way to make settings stick?
Please forgive my ignorance.

Make sure your mame files aren't set to read only, that could cause mame not to save the changes you have made.

No, the problem is you didn't listen to me. Hit F2 and change the volume for the Midway games. These changes WILL stick.

Thank you very much for your reply and for your help.
I did in fact listen to you and as I previously stated I understand how to adjust the volume through MAME.
I am sorry I was not specific when I said "I know how to adjust the volume in MAME". I apologize if my lack of detail lead you to believe I was ignoring you and what you said. I understand that F2 takes me to the service menu the same as the service button takes me to the same menu when using the actual game PCB which I also own. However in the service menu the game was at MAX volume and even at MAX volume the game seems to be significantly quieter than other games.
The confusion may also be compounded because in my set up process I may have accidentally run a different game rom version. It seems I will have to rig up some kind of external volume control pot from the actual speaker system and sub that I have installed in the cabinet. Thank you for the suggestion and rest assured that I did try F2.

The game *is* quieter than other games. That's not a fault in MAME, and if you turn up the volume in the service menu to the max you'll only end up introducing extra clipping.
The solution is to turn up your speakers, and while that might not be the answer you wanted to hear it's correct, and the only way to avoid distorting the sound.
