I have this several-year-old Kodak camera. Recently, I had it lying on my control panel while I was caught up in a game (yeah, mixing activities....) and it slid and fell in my lap, tumbled out, and down to the carpet. I don't think it really hit anything.
I have a cradle for it, which has LEDs for power-up and 'connected to PC'. Since the fall, when I put the camera on the cradle, only the power-up LEDs come on; the 'connected to PC' light will not, and the PC won't recognize it.
What in the camera could've gotten messed up that it will communicate with the cradle to power-up, but not connect to PC?
Note: I have a dedicated USB port for the cradle, so nothing changed there - but, I tried another port and same deal. Un- and re-plugged cables a couple/few times. No change.

A (partially) broken USB connector.

How much is several? If it is more than say 4 years, I think it is time to shop. You deserve better then!

This is a pretty good camera - 5mpx - with an aftermarket 20mm German lens or something. Plus, the SD card can be removed of course, it's just a hassle, right?
But, hey, get this. I hadn't thought to try this until just now: took the com cable going to the cradle and connected it straight to the camera - it's the same interface - and it automatically connects. Hmmmm. Maybe the cradle just decided to ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---?

Wouldn't doubt it. Cradles are just glorified connectors that form-factor-fit the device. Basically a connector with a piece of molded plastic.
IMHO: Cradles suck. They may seem "cool" and "Mac like", but they are worthless as ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- as a GP (general purpose) thing (I recycle old computer stuff, so anything this proprietary is a NO-GO-SUCK-MY-CLIT NON-OPTION.) That is my IMFHO.

Camera model number, please. I used to work on the Kodak digital cameras.

Down thea girl! Hmhmhmhm. I dunno. It came with the camera, and I bought the whole deal for $200, so I can't complain. I think cradles are great, though, cos you just set the thing down and presto.

MM. Okay - it's an Easyshare DX7590.

It's a full peripheral. The connector is a system bus and the dock has some decent firmware in it for making printing user friendly to the novice. This one isn't a USB passthru.
Does it still take photos and video properly? Can you transfer content through the direct USB connection? If you can do those things my best guess is that you cracked a solder joint on one of the dock port pins that is used by the dock but not USB. This camera probably carries some of the software I worked on but did come out just after I left Kodak so if I ever saw the physical layout I don't remember it.

Mm, thanks. Yes, and yes, it does. Probly just as you say.
