Title: total noob CRT questions
Post by: duhh on September 24, 2009, 06:42:22 pm
First off, I have read the FAQ and searched a fair bit, but as always there are conflicting answers. I am new to arcade cabs,  I am picking up my first one (actually first 3) tomorrow. I have never discharged a CRT before. I am also not really looking forward to attempting it in an untrained fashion. I basically think the weight of the cabs will warrant some dis assembly to get them into my basement as they are about 300 lbs. Just a guess, but the coinbox and monitor seem like they are 2 heavy components.

Do i need to discharge my CRTs? I have read that unless you plan on disassembling the CRT or removing the suction cup / anode and dont screw with the circuit board, you are safe. I only plan on having the CRTs out for a few minutes to transport, just uncertain...

No, you don't have to discharge them.  The reason you don't is because you're not going to be messing with the tubes.  Since you're just transporting, you do not have to.

That being said, be careful when removing the monitor from the cabinet.  Make sure that all the wires are removed.  There's probably a power, a video input, and a ground.  Be sure they're all off.
