Ok, so I sold my old MAME PC to my boss a few months back and have not had the chance to shop for either:
1. A used fast reliable enough memory PC that someone wants to get rid of w/AGP for my Arcade VGA Card and XP
OR
2. Build my own w/ motherboard (Dont really want to take this road)
So I need help since i have been looking on here for hours trying to decide what info is good and info is not for me.
Here is what my goals are:
Be able to play all the regular mame games, but have enough power to play games like Killer Instinct without the slow play or choppyness. It has to have an AGP video card slot since I already own the Arcade VGA Card. XP w at least SP3 and at least an 80GB HD. Other than that NO DELL !!!!!!!!!
So any help is greatly appreciatted and anyone who has anything I can buy ready to rock email me please with a price shipped to 89052.

Thanks

AGP is dead, has been for a long while now.
look for something in the pentium 4, athlon xp era.
a Pentium 4 around 3ghz will probably suit you pretty well.
-
Newegg still sells two Intel mobo's with AGP slots.

Well it seems you are looking for a "used" system? I might suggest Anandtech.com forums there have alot of great deals on parts. I agree AGP is dead, gone and soon to be forgotten. I would suggest and older Core 2 Duo. But keep in mind some of the newer stuff requires newer PSU (extra plugs and power requirments). Best bang for buck, i think you can pick up some old AMD systems for $100-150ish. More money, good $50-100 MB and a $100-125 E8400, $50 memory (newegg) and a PSU (and yes, all the other stuff, but most builders have that stuff (HD, Case, dvd rom). Some Overclocked newer chips will lay almost any game.

the only reason i want agp is because i have the arcade vga card in agp form
-
well i'd say ditch the agp card and go for something very new then.
the phenom II x2 550 (black edition) are great over clockers and good bang for your buck.
if you OC it you could probably play 99% of the games in mame right now at 100%
dont let that AGP card drag you down.. there is soft 15khz or just buy a newer arcade vga in PCI-E..
that should last a long time PCI-E aint going any where for a while.
if you insist on keeping that agp card then really i think a p4 somewhere around 3ghz would probably suit you pretty well and should be able to pick on up for a song.
just dont except much out of the 3d games or most of the CHD's
-
i'm running a p4 3ghz with 2gb of ram in my mame cabinet, most games run perfectly fine, other than the 3d games and most of the CHD games.
