I am working on my cabinet design and recently reviewed the 'Scratch Build Custom Street Fighter Arcade Cabinet' design. Magnificent! Martijn removed the CRT tube and guts from the case of a Sony Trinitron 25" before installing it.
What works best, leaving the TV whole when installing it into my cabinet or taking the CRT tube and guts out then installing?

It depends on the tv. My tv had speakers on the side which meant I'd have a lot wider cab than I wanted so I decased mine.

The speakers on my RCA 32" TV are located at the bottom so there isn't much difference in width on the sides. I realize most of the weight is in the CRT tube but I am searching for any benefit to removing the case.

better air cirulation.
beyond that it CAN (not always) make mounting easier or.. at least more secure.
it also eliminates any problems you might have with using/creating a bezel.
there are of course pros to leaving it cased that being all the high voltages thing-a-ma-bobs are behind plastic.. also the shell might be providing support for the PCB's.
it's also easy to yank it out later and turn it back into a TV again.. but this is a judgement call here what would you prefer? no right or wrong answer on this one.

Creating a professional looking bezel was one of my concerns. I just don't see how adding yet another layer of thickness over top the case and screen will do anything other then make the monitor look deeper in a hole.
I think I want to remove the monitor from the case. This CRT tubes sole purpose will be to live the rest of its natural life in my cabinet.

sounds like you've got your answer then..
looks like decasing would have more benefits for you then draw backs.

My main reason for decasing would be simple.
Lots of original 25" monitor chassis replacements being sold on ebay were designed with an original tube of A63XXXXXXXX - ETC.
as long as its an A63 inside the tv you can use it for a replacement for any 25" monitor chassis. Other than that their is just no reason to decase a TV.

This is a 32" RCA that I've had for about 8 years. It weights a ton and is the last CRT TV in the house. It just seems like a cleaner design to decase it and try it put a nice bezel / frame around it when mounting inside the cabinet.
Now all I need to do is not electrocute myself.

very easy. Stay away from the red anode wire going into the suction cup on the back of the Crt. Otherwise if you do need to touch it for some reason, make sure you do a proper discharge procedure.

I did read up on the discharge procedure. Seems simple enough as long as I don't put my hand on the case while discharging. That would not even be funny.
I thought now matter what that I should discharge the CRT tube while working with it loose? Isn't there a risk of electrocution from other areas besides the anode hole / cable?

i decased mine. easier to mount, more solidly mounted. easier to put a bezel on.

I had to decase mine due to the speakers being on the sides of the monitor. I didn't discharge the monitor- I didn't handle the anode in the slightest, and performed no wiring whatsoever, and therefore it wasn't necessary. The less tinkering the better!
