Title: MAME key mapping issue
Post by: VespaGuy on September 20, 2009, 12:26:22 pm
The other day, I let my friend's son play with my arcade machine. Like most kids, he made it a point to press every combination of buttons possible and I noticed that he had accessed at least one of the admin menus. I got him out of the menu and kept a closer eye on him after that. But this morning, I turned on my machine to find a small problem: While a game is open, if I press the Player 1 Start button, the game will start, but the volume/gamma dispay pops up on screen also (pressing Player 1 Start button again will remove the volume/gamma display).

Here's what I've figured out so far:

- I disconnected the Player 1 "up" wire from the I-Pac to see if there was a short. (The player 1 start button is my "shift" button and the "up" button's shift command is "~", which should bring up the volume menu). Without anything connected to the "up" input on the Ipac, I still get the volume menu when I press Player 1 Start.)

- I opened notepad and press player 1 start. It types "1", and not a "~".

With those two things in mind, I'm assuming that the problem is not with the electronics.

My guess is that somehow the mapping got changed and that player 1 start is now mapped to the volume control, but I'm not sure where to find this info or how to change it back. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Did you check the settings in the tab menu? Maybe the volume is just changed to 1 in there instead of ~.

That's probably what happened. I ended up just deleting the default.cfg file and it's working fine now.
