I have been using mame32 for about a year and just deceided to try mamewah.WOW i love the way it looks.anyway the problem is i tried to compile 071 myself but i have xp and the instructions at mame. net are for 98 and i got to the part where you edit autoexec.bat and the window was empty so i gave up in frustration.soo i downloaded fastmame070b and when i double click fastmame.exe the command prompt window flashes on then right off and thats it.my computer also did the same thing for mame070b that i also downloaded.
also i had mamewahv90 working with mame070b just fine then deceided to upgrade to the newer verion and now mamwah has no roms in the list and the path is right(i've checked about 50 times!!)

Ok, stupid question...so,don't be offended. Buuut, did you look under "games list options" and select "refresh games list"? I'm sure you did, but I had to ask...just in case.
-
Try checking the 'List Generation Method' also, it should be on 'ROM Folder vs Listinfo (M.A.M.E.)'. Then refresh the list just to be sure.
BTW when you double click mame.exe (or fastmame.exe etc.), it is correct that it just flashes up since no commandline stuff is being sent to it.
-
ok i just downloaded the update and set to rom folder vs listinfo(m.a.m.e) and can see all my roms and marquees but when i pust the player 1 button the games do not start, but when in the menu it works fine.what did i screw up now?

Could you check the 'debug.log' file inside the MAMEWAH folder? See if it seems correct for the last game you tried to launch...if it does not have the correct romname there, then it implies that MW thinks your MAME exe or romfile doesn't exist.
Report back with your findings...

i could not find debug.log file but i think you are right about not reading the fastmame.exe. I'll try using mame070b(i had that one working before)i'll post the outcome.

I would imagine that the reason it has trouble with fastmame is because of the name of the executable. If you renamed it to mame.exe I bet everything would work just fine.

If debug.log does not exist in your MAMEWAH folder, then this confirms that MW thinks your MAME exe or romfile does not exist....

if mw displays my roms list then wouldn't it definately be my fastmame.exe that it thinks does not exist? and what step should i take next?

You are right. The fact that you used the 'ROM Folder vs Listinfo' option also must mean that your MAME exe is OK, unless you changed it since you generated the list. Double check your fastmame.exe path/filename (type it in once again to be sure, MW will delete it if wrong). Let me know the outcome...
-
ok i figured out what i did wrong.when i set the path to fastmame.exe i then went into my fastmame folder and i noticed that fastmame did not have a .exe after it so i added it(dont ask why i'm still trying figure that out myself) that was the mistake.once i took off the .exe it started working. ;D
thanks everyone for trying to help a moron. I have come to the concluion that i might need more help than anyone here can give me.j/k

ok now i have mamewah working great exept one thing. What do i have to do to be able to use my trackball and spinner with the games that need them?once again I have only used mame32 before and it was just checking a box but i am not sure how to do it with mamewah and mame67b.

Anything relating to in-game stuf means setting up MAME rather than MAMEWAH.
Goto a command prompt,
Navigate to your MAME folder - eg 'cd\mame',
Type 'mame -cc' or 'fastmame -cc' or whatever,
Type 'edit mame.ini' or 'edit fastmame.ini,
Find that part that says 'mouse 0',
Replace with 'mouse 1',
Go 'File' > 'Exit' and save changes.
Mouse input should now work for all trackball/spinner games.

You would type:
c: (to make sure you're on the c drive)
cd "\program files\mame067d" (to change directory)
You probably don't need the above " s in you're using XP, but it won't hurt. :)

???
Hey Minwah,
I ran into this problem also. But I'm running mame .71. There is no .ini file, only a .cfg. and I've got the mouse option set to yes. I can use my trackball in Windows and in MameWah, but not in the games. I'm missing something somewhere.

You must be using the DOS version - I'd recommend trying the Windows commandline version (www.mame.net). The instructions I gave will work for this version :)

minwah thank you for all your help.everything is working great now.
thanks again,

Yeah, I got mine working as well. I am using the windows command line version, but the mame.ini file was never created. I had to use 'mame.exe -createconfig' for the .ini file to be created. Happy happy now.
Thanks.

I thought you were using the DOS version as you said there was a .cfg file (DMAME uses MAME.CFG)...glad you got it working now :)
