Title: Frustrated with Sanyo EZV 20
Post by: ZORK2 on September 16, 2009, 08:14:29 pm
I am at a loss with this stupid monitor. It has a new deluxe cap kit, voltage regulator, sync separator, new HOT, new flyback.... I don't know what else it could possibly be? The monitor "sounds" like it powers on, but it has no picture, there is no glow in the neck, when I pop the anode cup off it still gives a nice discharge. There are no bad solder joints, and all my caps are correctly placed with the correct polarities. No visible damage. Anyone have ANY ideas on what to try next? I am at my wits end with this thing!!  :banghead: I am beyond frustrated with this thing!!!

Crank the screen control on the fly up.  Do you get a raster pattern?

Yeah I cranked it, nothing....

Measure the B+ at power up.
Check the voltage regulator.

Heater isn't coming on, meter the voltage on the back of the neckboard.  If it's not there, there may be a problem with the flyback, or an issue on the neckboard itself.

Ok, I will give those things a try tonight.
The voltage regulator and the flyback are both BRAND NEW though?
How sensitive is that voltage regulator IC? I didn't use a heat sink when soldering it into place, is there a chance I overheated it?
What points on the neck board should I check? If the neck board were bad, what should I be looking for before I put it back on, for it to have a hair-line crack somewhere?

Could there be a chance that the VR 451 3Kohm sync pot could be bad? What would the symptom of that be? I was having some issies with the game syncing up before this thing took a crap on me.

Finally got around to checking the B+ tonight.

It was around 92volts for about 10 sec, then it quickly rose to about 133volts, then hovered around that mark.

What does that mean? I know it should be about 108 volts. Should I adjust it down to 108? I find it odd that it was around 92volts for a good 10 sec upon firing it up??

I tryed adjusting the B+ voltage down to 108v. When I adjusted the pot the votage remained around 130v. I tested the pot to see if it was working and could see the Ohm value vary as turned the pot.
Thoughts?
Sirpeale, where should I meter the votage on the back of the neckboard?

Sirpeale, where should I meter the voltage on the back of the neckboard?

The solder points of the heater pins of the socket.  It may be silkscreened "H" next to those pins.

What voltage should I have at those points?

I think ~6V.  Right now I want to make sure there's SOMETHING there @ all.

Hmm, where are we talking here? I see an "EH" that is what I'm pointing to on both the front and back sides of the board.......

It's pins 9 and 10 on a 4600, and I believe the EZ uses a compatible tube.

SirPeale you are right its pins 9 &10, I'll put the volt meter on them tomorrow and see what they read.
Its really bugging me that the B+ is at a steady 134v and the pot does nothing to move it. Brand new pot, verified working with my my ohm meter.  Makes me think that something is up with IC 601? But it is brand new? This stupid thing is frustrating the living heck out of me!! I feel like a dog chasing my tail!!  :banghead:

 ;D
YAHOO!!! Got it working!!! Bad solder joint on PS601. Not sure how I missed it for so long!?!? Reflowed the joint, adjusted B+ pot, and VR down, from that point I was able to dial in the voltage right to 108v. WOW, what a major pain! That thing has been kicking my for about 3 WEEKS NOW!!
Hey thanks for all your help here though guys, between here and the guys on KLOV, you got me running again!
THANKS AGAIN!!
