After searching through the threads it looks like people are getting both of these types of buttons.
What kind should I get? I've been told to get horizontal microswitch ones (http://www.happcontrols.com/pushbuttons/5891xxl.htm (http://www.happcontrols.com/pushbuttons/5891xxl.htm))
Are these the ones I want?

Horizontals are concave like most arcade buttons. The competitions popup a bit. Most go with horizontals. Those are what you would expect an arcade buttons to look like. (unless you like the feel of the others...)
-
ANd horizontals actually work. The ones where the switch is vertical and partway inserted into the base of the button only work part of the time.

Ok, gotta clear up a little confusion. Happ competition (http://www.happcontrols.com/pushbuttons/5896xxl.htm) buttons HAVE horizontal microswitches...but they have a convex surface (it curves out). Don't like them myself but opinions vary.
Happ ultimate (http://www.happcontrols.com/pushbuttons/539200xx.htm)buttons have vertical microswitches...don't like them either-not always reliable (as Pipercub said).
Happ's "Pushbutton With Horizontal Microswitch" (http://www.happcontrols.com/pushbuttons/5891xxl.htm) is the "normal" arcade button.
Hope this helps! ;D
Ps. Wico has "normal" arcade buttons with horizontal switches on sale for $0.88 (http://www.wicothesource.com/new2/pages/specials/special2.htm)

either one will do nicely.
You'll find that competition are gaining in popularity as they seem to yield slightly better performance. The button is lighter action and is a bit faster. Some also like the fact that it's a good button to mash on for quick presses.... Happ is currently selling them for $.10 less also.
Ultimates are good but just more traditional. Sometimes they go on sale. The other month, they were $.99 each so I bought a mess of them.
