Hello everyone,
Unfortunately there are no arcade shops in my country but a little bit interwebz search brought me to these "industrial pushbuttons (http://www.erk.web.tr/erk/Details.aspx?cid=663&catalogName=Products&bc=21&l=tr-TR)" which are accessible to me. I'm particularly interested in the ones titled as "Ø30 Çıkık Kafa Yaylı Buton, NO+NC-6A/250VAC".
I would really appreciate it if someone could just tell me if they are the right ones.
AFAIK "NO + NC" means "normally open/closed".
Also why are there 4 lugs instead of 3? 2 of them are ground maybe?
Thank you.

i don't have any experience with these buttons, but if i had to guess, i'd say they would probably be too stiff to use for controls. they may work OK for admin type functions, but i just can't imagine that they would be usable as gameplay buttons.
are you planning on building a mame cabinet? or modifying an existing cabinet? if so, assuming that there are no arcade shops in your country, what are you going to use for joysticks? how about a control interface? my point is, you are probably going to have to order other parts also, which may mean you have to order from outside your country.

I'm willing to build a bartop from scratch. I'm on planning phase.
You have a valid point. up until now, I was considering an industrial joystick which is manufactured in my country (http://www.araselektrik.com.tr/products/resim/cm101dj20.jpg) but it turns out it's only 4-way so I'll have to order overseas and throw a lot of money to shipping :/
Thank you

Yeah, those buttons are likely way too stiff.
I'd plan out what you need and try to make one order. You can usually get a break on skipping costs the more you bundle into a single order.
But that joystick does look cool!

i agree..try to plan well, and make sure you can find everything you need at one shop, and make one order. I dont know where you are located, or what kind of exchange rates you are looking at, or even how much those components would cost you. but for instance, looking around on some other sites in the US..industrial type pushbuttons similar to the ones you posted are much, much more expensive then arcade pushbuttons. (happ arcade buttons can be had for less than $2 each. looking at industrial buttons, i'm seeing them going for $10 to $30 each).
that is a pretty big cost difference. looking at joysticks, i found one (http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/6HM22) very similar to the one you posted, but it is nearly $200. a typical happ joystick is around $10.
so even though you may have to pay to get them shipped to you, you would probably still come in way lower on cost. (unless of course prices are alot different than they are here)

From his posts and links, I assume he's from Turkey. European suppliers are your best bet, but it's still gonna be hella-expensive. :dunno
-
Yes, I'm from Turkey. The shipping cost is approximately 40-50$ for the cheapest air mail for the parts that I need. Although it's not that much, it takes a lot of time to get here and it almost gets lost every 3 times out of 7, at least that was my experience with Ebay sellers. The solution is to pay for insurance and upgrade to a more expensive air mail, meaning, I need to pay more :timebomb:
Anyway, since there is no other choice I'll make the order.
Thanks again.

I'd always opt for the insurance on something like that. It's usually not more than $5, but without it you're up --cleavland steamer-- creek without a paddle.
Like everyone's said before, plan it out and make one large bulk order.

So far the cheapest set that I've found is this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310167064833&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123
Any ideas? Will it break in a day :P ?

sorry to bump this but I really wonder if that set is ok. There is also ball top ones which look better, http://cgi.ebay.com/TWO-8WAY-Arcade-Joysticks-14-Buttons-switch-BALL-TOP_W0QQitemZ310167049619QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4837659593&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14
any ideas? thank you

I'm always leery of no-name chinese parts to be honest. Theres usually a reason 2 sticks and 14 buttons would cost only $20 usd.
-
i'd be hesitant to buy cheap no-name parts.
-
I've seen many combo packs on ebay that are Happ components. Like 2 Happ Supers and 20 buttons for a reasonable price. I'd look for that.

buy cheap .... buy twice !! I second the above, buy happs /suzohapp buttons . they are top quality and they will last.
