Title: Cant seem to get videos to work....
Post by: Malenko on September 08, 2009, 07:17:58 pm
Yes, I searched, no I didn't find an answer. I installed the Xvid codec and I had the VLC player installed and had it uninstalled, no dice. Windows Media plays the files (means codec is installed) but MaLa wont.

I was using the johns arcade layout (which isnt quite working right, but its a good base for me to tweak and I think its Nifty) and I tried other layouts that had video but with the same result.

Any ideas?

make sure the vids are named exactly the same as the roms
check your path to your vids
uninstall divx if installed

I'd actually install a complete codec pack like k-lite.

I've never had any problems with playing video on Mala, and i've tried alot of installes true the years. Drop the k-pack. Xvid is the only thing you need, and i also have the vlc player installed.

Unfortually  the format that the videos comes in are not the best . I use Prism video converter to optimised them. This is a briliant program. If i dont use it theres a few seconds of blank screen before the video gets running. And if its the old torrent they hardly work at all before processed by Prism.

I persume that you have the basics sorted; like given the same name to your game files as to your videos, and pointed the mala setup to ýour movie folder. Also you afcourse need a layout that has video setup in the first place. Fogive me for makig this idiot proof but i dont know how far you are. If you need a working MAMe layout with video already setup take mine and dowload it from Filetac: (If you like my layouts i have 42 of them, one for ecah thinkable emu). They are however 1280x800 for flat lcd's (or 1600x 1200 for old CTR pc monitors that you can get for free or next to nothnig). If you use a low res arcade crt you cant use them.

and remenber to give your setup (in this case Mame) the name mame and point it in the mala setup to this layout folder. (If you ar all passed this and not abeginner jump to then next chapter right here under)

Guide to Prism Video converter. You set the settings in the video prism converter like this: output format: AVI. 'Encoder options': X-vid mpeg 4 codec, sound compresser; uncompressed pcm, sound format (as you like it, but i put it to 8 bit mono as i dont need the sound and this makes the files smaller. The 'edit output' i leave as it is. Now you only need to press 'browse' to find a new folder (that you've already made)to let the program put the final files in. It's a fast program and it works. Even when the new torrent with x-vid format came out some months ago i still had the problem with 2 seconds of blank screen before the video showed up. After running the video files trough Prism Video coverter things worked smoot. If you are using the old torrent then there's a world ín difference and things will work out to the smootest. Try it. You wont regret it. (Now ofcoure you could have some complete differet problem, but i dought it)

Henrik

And remenber only Xvide codec and vlc player in you pc, nothig else no packs with codecs)
If any questios post me.

Henrik

If the video plays in WMP, it should play fine in mala.  If you still have problems, try g-spot (http://www.divx-digest.com/software/gspot.html).  You drag the AVI into it and hit the run buttons at the bottom-left.  It will tell you if it works and what codecs are used/needed.

What mala are you using?

FFDSHOW should be the pack you'd need.

I'll give these a shot tonight. Anyone have a layout that works in 800x600 or higher that works with videos (maybe its my layout?)

I would try the default layout just adding the video preview square for testing. You can use "mala layout editor" for this.

I am using k-lite codec pack FULL (first I unistalled all previous codecs), videos from the latest emumovies torrent and latest mala stable release (1.05) and everything works ok in my cabinet.

When downloading emumovies torrent you will get a "arcadeCollection" folder wich has inside a folder named "A"...folder "B"...........until folder "Z". I had to move all those videos to the same folder and in mala config select the folder containing all the videos.

here the links:

http://emumovies.com/ (http://emumovies.com/)

hope it helps.....
