Title: Add the PS1 to a cab or not
Post by: aust_txv on July 13, 2003, 12:39:27 pm
Greetings,
What games on the Playstation One are good arcade translations/ports hardware wise?  I mean is is worth it to add the PS1 to cab.  I have a Saturn for MvSF,XMvSf, VirtuaFighter, other Capcoms that are great translations/ports.  Sure the DC offers great ( if not exact)   ports of many cool games even NeoGeo - - A DC is a Naomi board Yes ?  What was the Saturn ?  System II ?  My question is what hardware/software ports come right out of the arcade system and on to the PS1 ?
Thanks,
TV

Oh yeah !  "Point Blank" is sweet.  I purchased Point Blank 3 for PS1 with Guncon for 19.99  from EBGames.
Super fun.  Did TimeCrisis use the PS1 hardware ?

Oh another light gun game for PS1/PS2  "Elemental Gear Bolt"

Might as well add a PS2. Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution and Psyvaria are both magnificent. :)

Reading this post reminded me of something I used to do in 1996 I had a spare 25" wells gardner strandard resolution monitor what I did was use my first year release playstation the one with the multi-out connector on the back and bought a SCART connector form a local inport store and lucky for me I worked with a television technician who was from England and he helped me map out the RGB connections from the scart cable.I went home hooked up the cable to the monitor and was surprised at how good the ps1 looked on a arcade monitor.

" Why not just use a playstation emulator? "

Fair question.  I have a PS1 and an opening for it and controls built.  I have tekken3, tekken2, TimeCrisis and Point Blank 3.  How about the Namco "Ridge Racer" games ?

"Im going to add a PS1 to my cab, mainly for light gun games (ie Point Blank and Time Crisis). "

Also if you like gun games the Saturn VirtuaCop and gun an easy cheap find.

Thanks,

You can find similar instructions (PS1/2 to arcade monitor) in the Console Section on this site.

Kind of a rare find if your PSX isn't modded, but Elemental Gearbolt is another great light gun game, and Namco also released Golly Ghost/ Oh!! Bakyuun (Jap title; Eur/Jap release only) on PSX.

What about the 4P possibilites?  Are there any good 4P multi-tap games?  Can't really think of any offhand..

LOL, I think I may end up the first person to throw a Saturn in a cab, unless I can get my JAMMA ST-V board up and running first :P.. anyone else done this?

I'm pretty sure the PC2JAMMA website has an example for hooking up a Saturn. If so, then you wouldn't be the first.

EDIT:

Yup. Here it is...

Hi.  The Saturn goes in a cab easily.  You can still find SCART cables to get RGB.  Also the Saturn PCB is simple to solder with huge solder points.  PLUS you get  VirtuaCop, DieHard Arcade, VirtuaFighter for old time sake.  FightingVipers and the Capcom line.  Oh World Series Baseball 98 nice arcade baseball game.

4 player PS1 possibilites ( arcade )  that's a tough one.  What about the NFL Blitz series ?  Although better on the DC.  Bomberman ?  PS1 version of Gauntlet Legends 4 player ?

Someone asked what the difference between Saturn and DC is, so ill asnwer that one...

Saturn = 32Bit Console with great Sprite Handling, awsome 2D system, good 3D System (requires Mod Chip to play Backed up Games...)

Dreamcast = 128Bit Console 'nuff Said... (No Mod Chip Required)

Of you want details, I can do that... but then I would prolly just cut/paste from this site...

Happy Gaming :-D
