Title: I need new plexi
Post by: dieseldogpi on September 01, 2009, 09:38:25 pm
Where do I look to get new plexi glass for my control panel on my Golden Tee Fore?  I really would rather have something done professionally, anytime I've messed with plexi, it comes out pretty rough.  Thanks.

They key to cutting plexi is a router.  Honestly, with a router its so easy you will be shocked.

what about lexan?  I heard that was much easier to work with.  Even when I go to drill holes in plexi, it cracks.

lexan is suppose to be a lot more flexible and easier to work on.. but it also is suppose to scratch easier and cost more..

try using a hole saw on the plexy instead of a twist bit.

also go slow i've heard a lot of people having problems simply from putting to much pressure.. just let the drill do the work and go easy.

plexi/lexan are easy to work with if you have a router.  you dont need a good router, one of those $25 trim routers from harbor freight work perfectly.  there are a few threads on this subject..

if you look about half way down the first page, i have a post where i showed exactly how i did it and which bits to use.

Think of it as plexi and lexan being two different langues but the router speaks them both. The router will make short work of either one with the right bit.  The cracking really only comes into play with conventional drilling/scoring etc. I usually use a small forstner/spade first then just trim flush the hole afterwards.  That way even if it were to crack a bit you would trim out the crack with the router bit afterwards.
