If all you plan to play in it is KI2 then why not repair it ?

Honestly.... I have to agree with Spyridon.
"Restore" and "MAME" don't go together. Especially on newer games that are more than easily repaired with original equipment.
If it were something obsolete and rare..... then maybe go the MAME route in an original cab setup.

If you really are serious about MAMEing it, I would be cool to have only a 2 choice menu system for both KI and KI2.  That cabinet is in amazing condition.  Beautiful artwork.

A KI2 combo would be sweet.  Even if it is MAME.  But you could always buy the boards later and install at 2 in 1 switch.

have you seen the going rate for KI1 and KI2 boards?
It'd be cheaper to buy a new good computer and run MAME

Well, it could count as a Restore I guess if he's using MAME to emulate KI and KI2.  I've seen it done with Dragon's Lair and that was in the Restoration section.  The guy painstakingly restored the cabinet but decided to use Daphne to emulate the game since Laserdiscs were hard to come by.

It's funny how it leaves me totally cold if he would Mame this or not.

I never liked these kind of games, and I never will.

Same here.  I have no love for fighting games or any 90's Jamma games for that matter.  However, this is a nice cabinet and doesn't belong in the restoration section if this will be a Mame game.

(in fact, my War Gods will become a mame cab for my brother soon)

There is a huge difference between finding original hardware for a KI and a Dragons Lair.

And this fella just mentions that it's "not working" with a hint that the monitor doesn't work.
So is all the original hardware there or not ? (boardset)
The monitor should be easy enough to fix...... and a boardset easy enough to find if needed.
Number one thing that goes out on these is the power supply.
And typically they just get weak and need turned up a hair.

So, question remains...... how complete is this machine ?

It's still really all a matter of opinion on what you do with a cab.
But MAME something that is easily "restorable" and you tend to loose some support here and there.
I'd even go along with the multi-KI's others have built......but there's at least original hardware in those that I've seen. (JAMMA switchers)

i assume he's gonna run ki 1 and 2 on mame in it, rather then a general use mame cabinet.

thats a ki2 cab, if the board is working but monitor is out then fix the monitor would be the easiest/cheapest way of going about this.. although you'll only have ki2.. personally i like the first KI better then the 2nd but thats neither here nor there.

the art loks like it's in good shape so if you do mame it for "general" gameplay beyond ki1 and 2 at least keep the side art.. thats such a big thing with me. preserving the cabinet art if there is any.

Sure..... a cabinet dedicated toward the KI series is cool.....

Just found out the reason for Killerinstinct's silence: He had an accident at work, fell 3 meters from a ladder and got hurt pretty bad. Not sure if he'll chime in here again, but he was able to leave a message at www.gameroom.eu telling this and said he will recover 100%.

So for now, the cab will have to wait...

i'm back

i'm better now but i'l need a pretty long way to recover (i will)

sorry if i put this in the wrong section  ???

the pc is allready installed and an J-pac also , the controls are working

now the next thing i need to do is search how i'm going to do it with the monitor

if the arcade monitor is broken , then i'm going to look how i can put an normal tv in it

the pc that i'm using has an Svideo on board , is it possible to use that?

the last option is use vga scart but i'm not that smart to make such cable :)

will see

not sure where you are, scart is a european standard or what not.. anyway if your're in the states then no such luck no TV"s over here come iwth one.

you can also get scrat cables made if you dont think you cn make one.

in any other cases you can uses svideo although component will give a better picture if possible.

so yes your plan is very doable.

I say unless you can manage to fix the problems with it.....Mame it. Just don't alter the cab itself. The artwork is too pretty. lol.

You can get both KI's running fine ontop of a lot of other games.

But thats just me. Its your cab. Do with it what you want.
