Title: New MAMEPC & soft15khz/Video trouble HELP!!
Post by: candycabguy on August 15, 2009, 05:24:13 pm
Any help here guys would be GREAT

Long story short, have been running an old PC through my 29' Neo Geo candy cab for the past 2 years, J-PAC, soft15khz, SOLID picture but wanted to upgrade my puny system, so built a 3.2Ghz P4 machine from parts i had around.

My new setup:

P4 3.2
Win XP Pro
GForce 8400GS PCIE 1.0
4Gb RAM
MAME .126
soft15khz

trying to reestablish picture but cant, very distorted, computer starts, screen doubles & stretches exactly like it did with old machine on bootup, but when desktop hits, it sometimes goes screwy, yellow JPAC light stays on, Green goes off, sometimes can boot with both lights solid, but picture distorted, very BLUE & unstable

jumpers on jpac are the same as for the last system which booted flawlessly, jumpers on 15 & 31.

Any ideas?  Is it my video card?

Thanks guys, any help MOST appreciated

Lee

Are you setting your resolution to at most 640x480 before you install Soft 15khz?  Sometimes I've had problems with it not starting in a low mode cause I restarted at 1024x768.

Thanks jack - nope, been running 800X600, cause thats the lowest setting this card will allow me, cant seem to drop below that.  Any ideas?  Should I try installing quickres?

More diagnosis - on bootup, both j-pac sync lights stay solid, but once the desktop hits after XP icon, the green 'sync ok' light goes out?  Any ideas there?  Change refresh rate?  Its set at 85 Hertz.

Thanks

Another case where you need a dongle.
Other than that You must NOT set the refresh higher than 60Hz.

Are you SURE soft15-khz is installed, as you shouldn't be able to select higher refresh rates.

Also, you absoluty need to use QuickRes for lower resolutions.

Thanks sailor!

a dongle - where & how much?  Am i better off just getting a more compatible video card?  Still have return time on this one........

soft 15 must be running, otherwise i dont think I'd get a picture on the cab monitor.  soft 15 says it initializes.

installing quickres now.
