I have a spot on my panel just large enough for one of those tornado spinners. But my control panel is on about a 35 degree angle (don't blame me, Midway designed the cabinet).
Will a tornado spinner work correctly at an angle like that?

Hm.. that's a good question.. I would assume that as long as the spinner is mounted sturdily, the angle wouldn't really interrupt with the centrifugal force since the encoder disc is equally weighted at all points.. like if you take a spinning top and hold it at an angle (same principle -- it keeps spinning).. after a really long time, the shaft might develop a groove from the weight of gravity (maybe), but proper lubrication would probably prevent that, too.

While I do not yet have a Tornado... I doubt youd have a problem mounting them at an angle. You probably could use them upside down as well... because they use a dual bearing system.
With those dual ball bearings, it should firmly keep the shaft in place at any angle.
This is one of the reasons why they spin so long... because the dual bearings keep the shaft from any wobble or 'play' -which can cause addtional friction.
I think this is also a good way for people without much space can add a spinner : by mounting them horizontally in the front of the cab. (like a stereo knob)

Hello,
The Tornado will work fine in an angled position, I doubt it will wear any more mounted in this fashion either.
Thanks,
