Title: using joystick madkatz 360 controller on computer
Post by: dppham on August 12, 2009, 01:38:54 pm
i just finshed soldiering the joystick and i would like to use the joystick as a mouse on my computer.  is it possible? or i might add a tracking ball as a mouse. anyone know a mod on that too?

the joystick i made from madkatz i made for the xbox 360. now i want to convert it to use on computer to run mame. im thinking about adding a computer to the box i made for the joystick.  i should still be able to use the madkatz 360 pcb for computer right? what program will i need to configure it in xp?

what kind of computer should i run for mame and i guess imma run xp rather dos. need specs, video card, sound ,ram etc.

for the gui i would like to use a card with video out as well as a moniter out.
sound .. im thinking about installing onboard speakers to the box with joystick and computer.
bascially imma make a all in one joystick, computer, speakers, lights. only thing i have to connect to it is a moniter (tv) and power for the computer

wow...where to begin...

It is possible technically to use a joystick as a mouse, however it usually sucks.  a trackball is a much better option.

i believe most wired xbox 360 controllers will work with windows xp sp1 and higher simply by plugging them into a usb port.

as for computer specs to run mame, that depends on what games you want to be able to play.  some games only run on 4ghz overclocked core 2 duos, most will run on alot less.   It also depends alot on which version of mame you are using.  i have a pentium III, 800mhz with 128mb of ram, running win98 that will play most of the vertical classics with no problems, using an old version of mame.

as for my main cabinet, i'm running a p4 3.0ghz, 2gb ram, geforce 4 mx440 graphics, and it runs most games just fine (3d games don't do so well)

my suggestion is look through the wiki, and try to get an idea of what you want to accomplish.
