If you're going to play Donkey Kong 2, read this thread please:

I'm also a little curious - most of the hacks I've seen are just awful though.

Man, that thread was painful ... it was, however, interesting to see the distinction between the various parties and their positions.

I contributed pretty heavily to the pain ...

It is interesting to note the position of at least one member in that thread who was unconcerned for Jeff's feelings and said that "I doubt we will be missing much from his future efforts"  is now concerned about the effects of IP on the hobby because of the legal actions against David Foley, because it could impact the hobby and his ability to access ROMs.

NOTE: I don't find his comments to be hypocritical ... indeed, sadly, I find them to be typical, just lacking in consideration for folks like Jeff, who I think are valuable to the hobby.

I couldn't agree more.  Jeff has provided a GREAT product to our community and his work doesn't go un-noticed.  I gladly paid for my ROM set to support his work.   It's an awesome game, and I hope he continues to push forward....despite the people who profess to see no value and still want his (and everyone else's) games....

i would'nt get to worried about the foley case.

it will have zero impact on accessibility of roms.. im sorry but some people seem to be in a delusional state where they think downloading roms you dont own is ok, legit, or somehow sanctioned.

the sad fact of the matter is rom sites get shutdown, they're not different then music, movies or game downloads..

it's all the same ball of cheese legally, it's call piracy.

rather copy right holders pursue people who infringe on them as viciously as say the music industry is really of no consequence as has been shown repeatedly you can't stamp out piracy even the RIAA failed.

usually they are after distributors and people making profit, groups like the Riaa targeting users is a rarity, especially now that downloading music, movies, etc on the internet is mainstream no longer hidden in secrecy.. dollar to a donut the judge seeing the case either has broke the copy right laws them self or their underage kids are doing it daily at home.
