Hey,
I'm working on a cabinet that is DOS based, with an ISA sound card. When I ESC to get out of a game in MAME it kidna gets "stuck" on a mostly black screen and some weird noise stutters ... until I hit ESC again to land back into the FE or the command prompt...
The odd thing is that I used to use this mobo and souncard in a previous incarnation of a different mame cabinet and never had this issue.
Thoughts?

Have you tried waiting for it to clear up, or was it a 'Hey! WTF?' thing, and hitting the ESC button 'just to be sure' it exited?

To be fair I don't remember waiting to see if it went away by itself. If I did, it probably just continued and I got pissed and hit escape 20 times
=P

Try again, this time, wait. My cab does kinda the same thing, it all freezes, and the sound gets all stuttery. But a few seconds later, it comes undone.

Also, some games on some systems take longer to exit than other games, or the same game on a difference computer. Dos or win mame, or even other apps. Could be drivers, cards, motherboard, the app, or some combination.
20 seconds, OTOH, is a little long. Every game in mame, or only certain ones?

Where did he mention 20 seconds?

Opps. :-[ I must have mis-read "...and hit escape 20 times" as "... and hit escape after 20 seconds" or something.
*shrug* Oh well. ;)

unnaceptable, u_rebel... Maybe your reading comprehension will improve when the Emperor arrives....
er...
FWIW It does seem to do it on the sampling of games I tried. Both old and new school-ish games.
It *will* pass if you give it 5-6 seconds.
Due to an unfortunate hard drive incident, I had to totally rebuild the DOS system from scratch and it *still* did it.
*Shrug* I cut the sample rate toi 22500, stereo no, and resample filter off and still does it.
It's a minor annoyance... and I'd still like any suggestions. Maybe I should try a different mame versoin for kicks... As this didn't happen in this mobo;s/ souncards previous mame incarnation.
thanks for the feedback so far (EEEEEEEEEE!)

You mention ISA, so I assume the tech is slightly older.
Mine does the same thing, and my system is older (as I'm running mostly classics). I think it's just the nature of the beast.
