Title: WG monitor issue on P456 board - sparking?
Post by: Snazzy81 on August 07, 2009, 09:59:47 pm
Hi,

I have a WG monitor with a 456 neck board.  I notice that it's out of focus and when I turn up the focus the entire picture shrinks down to a line - like a deflection problem.  I also notice that there seems to be sparking at the same time the deflection problem happens inside the socket part of the neck board that plugs into the tube (SKT201).  When I shut the lights off I notice the part of the socket where one of the wires from the focus control seems to light up from within.

This isn't a picture of my board, or even the same PCB.  Mine lights up where the black wire with the yellow connector attaches to the socket.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Bad solder connection inside the socket. Possibly moisture in there too.

Interesting, so inside the socket itself or the connections to the PCB?

Where the focus voltage wire connects inside the socket assembly.

in other words , replace the skt .

there is an internal spark gap  (over voltage protection) that can corrode , and repeated arcing can
build up a conductive carbon trace ..

fyi, typical focus voltage is 8kv-12kv

Great, thanks for the info!  Where do I get a socket like this?
