Title: Using Mala in Ubuntu 9
Post by: davidturner on August 05, 2009, 08:31:25 pm
Hello. I know there is no offical version of mala on this OS, but I can get it running ok to run games and use the windows version of mame via wine.

The problem I'm having is it won't show video, everything is setup ok, the avi file is in the right place, and I have installed the XviD, and a SLD codec pack.

Does anyone have any ideas of what im missing to get it to show video, most of the linux based frontends are so basic, they suck on an industrial scale.

Thanks.

Yep. I'm pretty sure now the limitation is wine, it cant get access to any windows based video codec. Hope one day it gets a Linux port. Does anyone know of any Linux mame frontends that can play avi files?

Thanks.

... or perhaps a Sony PS3?

(Because, if it is... I'd be interested in hearing more.)  ;D

I personally haven't used it but Wah!Cade looks like it has support for movies.

Right now I just use Kxmame on my PC at home and work (used only during my lunch I promise). I am thinking about building a bartop and might try Wah!Cade in that.

I need to build something with that brand new (or would it be NOS at this point ???) ver-1 iPAC I have never opened

To get Windows Codecs you need to install codecs that are non free from something called the PLF, now I really wish there was a Linux port of MALA.
