Title: So I found a 13" VGA monitor in the garage. . .
Post by: GaryMcT on August 03, 2009, 11:25:10 pm
It's probably multisync. . can you say bartop?  I knew you could. :)

I'm jumping the gun of course. . I haven't actually plugged it in yet to see if it still works.

check the cable if it has 3 rows of pins then should be VGA or higher..

if it's only got 2 rows like a serial cable then it's either CGA or EGA most likely.

2 rows can also mean RGB (like EGA) but with a different sync method (usually sync on green). If it is RGB, then HORRAY! 15 khz, native, BABY! If it is VGA and 13', I doubt it is multisync tho. Prolly in that case just 32 kHz... (still usefull tho, if you don't care about "proper" arcade rez.)

Turns out that it is VGA and 32kHz.  Hmmm, I can probably do scale-by-two-with-no-filtering stretching to make it work.  I may just wait until I get around to doing better CRT (and vector!) emulation on a highres LCD and do that for a bartop instead so that I can get vector games too.

I used to have a "green" one back in 2000, but I had absolutely nothing that worked with it. Ended up tossing it when I moved figuring I would never use it. Doh!
